178w ago - A few weeks back it was first announced and clarified, so beginning today Sony PSN Sr. Director Susan Panico has confirmed that the Hulu Plus preview will officially be streaming on the PS3 entertainment system.
Additionally, Kotaku.com has shared a video preview (below) of the Hulu Plus PlayStation 3 application.
To quote: Continuing our goal to provide the most content-rich entertainment platform in the living room to the PlayStation community, I'm excited to announce that beginning today, the preview of Hulu Plus is available on the PlayStation 3 in the U.S., the first and only console with dedicated gaming functionality that will offer Hulu Plus this year.
If you don't know, Hulu Plus is Hulu's new subscription service offering full current season runs of hit TV programs from ABC, FOX and NBC, adding even more premium video content to the more than 23,000 movies and...
179w ago - With the recent news that the premium Hulu Plus service is coming to Sony's PS3 entertainment system this year, many were left wondering if a PlayStation Plus subscription would be required to use Hulu Plus on the PlayStation 3.
Today Examiner.com (linked above) has received confirmation from Hulu Support Rep Jordan that PlayStation Plus is not required for Hulu Plus on the PS3, however, this is once the preview period ends.
To quote: "Specifically to your question, the Playstation Plus service is only a requirement during the preview period.
Once the preview period ends you should be able to download the Hulu Plus app but that will still require the Hulu Plus subscription.
Right now we are limiting the number of users but Hulu Plus will be launching to the public very soon so stay tuned!"
Until then, those who don't wish to wait it out may opt to give the old Hulu...
180w ago - Today Hulu announced the launch of their Premium Subscription Service dubbed Hulu Plus, which is slated to come to PCs, Apple's iPhone and iPad, some Samsung Blu-ray players and Sony's PS3 entertainment system.
Through an ad-supported premium subscription, Hulu Plus service will cost $9.99 per month and includes HD access to full season runs of shows from Fox, ABC, and NBC.
The service is currently only available to select Hulu members who have been invited – you can request an invite HERE.
To quote: "Even if you don't have an invite, you'll still be able to download a Hulu Plus application on the iPad, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
The application features a limited number of episodes, but you'll be able to get a feel what the service will be like. Hulu says that the service will launch broadly in the coming months.
Content will be delivered at a resolution of 720p (HD) when available, and can be downgraded in low-bandwidth scenarios."
231w ago - PCWorld had the opportunity to interview Sony's Director of Network Operations Eric Lempel to get answers to several topics including PS3 Firmware Updates, NXE and Hulu.
For the complete interview see the link above, but below are some excepts from it, as follows:
When asked why Sony doesn't provide more PS3 Firmware Update details on the PlayStation Blog, Lempel stated:
"Well basically in the updates that we do on the blog, it's really to tell consumers this is what you can do today with your PS3, or in the next few days when we release a firmware update.
It isn't about diving into the tech and letting them know six months from now you're going to see a game that may have better effects in a certain area because we've put this in such and such update. That's not as digestible for the majority of consumers. It just won't work."
When asked if Microsoft's NXE debut mimicked the PS3 XMB, he stated:
"You know, I didn't really think about it that way. I mean, I saw some comparisons when it came out, but that's very interesting that you say that. You know, hey, it's great, if they like our interface and want to copy it, as long as that's legal, sure. I don't really know...
232w ago - A few days after blocking PlayStation 3 users, Hulu has yet to respond to questions concerning the change which has only helped to fuel rumors it is related to the Microsoft ad campaign currently featured on the site.
However, a guide is now available courtesy of yPass.net (linked above) that details how to workaround the method being used to block PS3 users, namely checking the User-Agent string in the HTTP request.
The workaround? To make your PS3 appear as a PC running a Firefox (or whatever you prefer) browser to any Web site that asks, as follows:
1. Install squid ("sudo apt-get install squid" for ubuntu users.... for Windows users, google for: squid windows)
2. Edit squid's default config (/etc/squid/squid.conf on ubuntu) with these changes (or download my configuration: squid-hulu.conf):
Search for "acl localnet src" and set it to your internal network. You can remove the other localnet definitions if you're not using them as shown here:
