216w ago - On March 24th, Gears of War 2 received its third title update. It's the biggest update yet and promised to fix multiple exploits, bugs, and other glitches.
The update also includes an overhaul to the matchmaking ranking system as well as brand new achievements to prepare for the Snowblind Map Pack due out on the 31st.
However, the question still remains, "has the online component truly been fixed correctly?" Believe it or not, it has.
As inconsistent as Epic Games is when it comes to fixing their beloved Gears, you have to admire their persistent efforts. The first title update addressed matchmaking issues, allowing parties not at maximum capacity to find a game in a respectable amount of time.
The second update addressed a slew of problems including the Gnasher shotgun fix. But even with such significant upgrades as the previous fixes accomplished, they pale in comparison to what the third has done for the game. You can check the complete patch notes here.
Let's start with the most noticeable change; the reimagining of the ranking system. Before the update, Gears had a ranking system based around five different military decals. The problem was that after you began playing, your bars would never really change at all.

Press Release: "HALO 3" and "GEARS OF WAR 2" HEADLINE BLOCKBUSTER LINE-UP OF XBOX LIVE GAME ADD-ONS
LONDON 23rd March 2009 - Spring is nearly here, and with it comes new life for some of this generation's biggest, most action-packed games, exclusively on Xbox LIVE. With more than 35 million in combined sales, the "Halo" and "Gears of War" franchises have set the bar for multiplayer games on the console. Now players of "Halo 3" and "Gears of War 2" will see the multiplayer experiences made even better by great new Game Add-ons.
On 31st March, the Snowblind map pack gives "Gears of War 2" players a chance to cool off with four new, winter-themed environments: Grindyard, Under Hill, Courtyard, and a frozen version of the "Gears of War" favourite, Fuel depot. Hot on the heels of Snowblind comes the highly-anticipated "Halo 3" Mythic Map Pack, releasing 9th April with three new maps: Assembly, Orbital and Sandbox. Both Game Add-ons will be available only on Xbox LIVE for 800 Microsoft Points.
In addition to the exclusives mentioned above, Xbox 360 is the only console where you can extend your play with Game Add-ons from many of the year's...
223w ago - I don't know how many times it has to be repeated, reiterated, redundantly reinforced and repetitively reproached, but gamers really, really need to understand that despite the hype, despite the news, despite whatever they hear or read from anyone else, GOW 3 is not coming to the PS3.
The rumors have been put out there but they also need to be squashed, and TheGameReviews has aptly done so.
There was a lot of talk about Gears of War 3 coming to the PlayStation 3 ever since the Gears of War 2 writer, Joshua Ortega mentioned that the Gears of War series could expand as a video game franchise for about ten years. Sony often says the same thing about the PlayStation brand, which started the rumor that Gears of War 3 was coming to the PS3.
Just like God of War - and how Sony owns the rights to it as trademarked property and that means it won't be appearing on the Xbox 360 - so the same applies to Gears of War and Microsoft ensuring that it will never appear on the PlayStation 3.
Added to this, the rumor killer above pretty much lays out why Gears 3 won't be coming to the PS3. Besides, the only way it would happen is if Microsoft forfeited...
224w ago - I'll make this abundantly clear off the bat: despite some of the more significant technical glitches in Gears of War 2, it was easily one of the best games of 2008 and certainly one of the best of the generation.
However, I found Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to be a cleaner, and ultimately more entertaining, production. Yes, I'm talking about the first Uncharted and the most recent Gears.
Considering that it's silly to compare either Resistance 2 or Killzone 2 to Gears, the closest PlayStation 3-exclusive competitor is Naughty Dog's new series... and in all honesty, I see Uncharted eventually surpassing Epic's series in terms of overall quality and fun factor (yes, I'm aware the latter is subjective).
Even though there was plenty of critical acclaim and the game sold very well, I still think Drake's Fortune is one of the most overlooked titles of the generation. This is due to a number of factors: first, the PS3 had been out for only a year - and a rough year at that - when the game launched, and it simply didn't reach a very large audience. Second, it wasn't an established franchise and typically, IPs don't fare as well as hotly anticipated sequels.
Third, Sony's bad marketing and promotion left Uncharted out in the cold, but we're starting to see a reversal in that lagging advertising,...
225w ago - Movie director Len Wisemen has revealed that he will be writing a Gears of War movie, and even has plans to make it into a trilogy.
To quote: Bloody-Disgusting.com recently caught up with Die Hard 4.0 director Len Wisemen at the premiere of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, a movie which Wiseman produced.
Speaking to the horror movie Web site, Wiseman revealed that he will be directing a Gears of War movie, which he is co-writing with Chris Morgan (Wanted, Fast and the Furious) and admitted he bought an Xbox 360 to play Gears of War.
"I suck at video games, it just takes me too long and I can't get the coordination of 'em. When I was on Die Hard, I had to choose some video game for the background in a scene with Kevin Smith.
I was shown about a dozen games and told to 'choose one to be in the background' and I said 'this one looks really, really cool whatever it is,' and it was Gears Of War," said Wiseman.
"I just really connected with it; the design of it the world, the whole thing. So I actually bought an Xbox 360 to start researching what it was."
