Video: Sony Reveals PixelJunk 4am GDC 2012 Demonstration

200°
128w ago - Sony Latin America Blog Manager Lorenzo Grajales has revealed a new PixelJunk 4am demonstration video today straight from the 2012 Game Developers Conference.

To quote: From the moment we got our first glimpse of PixelJunk 4am, we knew it was like nothing we'd ever seen before. Q-Games always strives to deliver distinctive games with one-of-a-kind experiences.

With PixelJunk 4am, they chose to bring this concept to a whole new level. Watch the video to see a live performance and learn more about how the game works.

But what exactly is PixelJunk 4am? A game? An instrument? To answer this question, we turned to Rowan Parker, who explained it from the floor of a launch party held during the 2012 Game Developers Conference where DJ Baiyon "played" for the lucky attendees.

PixelJunk 4am is easy to understand once you have the PlayStation Move motion controller in your hands and the visualizer appears. It varies with each "presentation," but you can change it at any time by pressing the Select button. What's important is for the music to "live" in the air, so to speak.

With PS Move, you grab hold of the sound from four different instruments (represented by the four control buttons) and unleash...

128w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared a Kara demonstration video trailer below courtesy of Quantic Dream from this year's GDC event.

To quote: Head-turning videogame tech demos are a dime a dozen at Game Developers' Conference, but developer Quantic Dream might have this year's crop beat.

Watch the full tech demo video for "Kara" below to see how the creators of Heavy Rain are looking to expand virtual performances in video games.

And just to be extra clear: No, "Kara" is not Quantic Dream's next game.

Director David Cage was on-hand at GDC to debut the new video to the press, and his presentation touched on the origins of "Kara" - we've selected a few choice quotes below. Check back tomorrow to hear our full interview with Cage on the Official PlayStation Blogcast. It's one interview you won't want to miss!

After Heavy Rain, we wanted to push the envelope in terms of quality, starting with the visuals. We wanted to improve many things - things that were not possible with the Heavy Rain engine. So we had to develop a new engine from scratch.

We also wanted to improve the quality of the acting. With Heavy Rain, we did what many games do - split performances,...

128w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein is here with a hands on tour video demo of Sound Shapes for PS Vita from GDC 2012 below today.

To quote: It's Game Developers Conference time once again, and while headlines are a bit light, it's a great place to find game developers (of course).

We'll be bringing you videos, interviews, and conversations over the next several days, as well as a mega GDC Blogcast on Thursday.

The first game we got ahold of here at GDC is upcoming PS Vita musical platformer Sound Shapes. The game is best seen (and heard), so we present here Jason deGroot of Queasy Games.

In this video, deGroot takes you on a tour through a never-before-seen level, as well as sharing the in-game tutorial, so you know exactly what you'll be seeing when you load up Sound Shapes for the first time.

So when do you get to play Sound Shapes on your own personal Vita? The Queasy Games team doesn't yet have a release date, but they confirmed that a pre-release demo is in the making. We'll keep you posted.

180w ago - Today Naughty Dog Community Strategist Arne Meyer shared some new PS3 3D video footage on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and revealed villainess Katherine Marlowe from GDC 2011.

To quote: Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra, Richard Lemarchand and yours truly were to give the demo and speak with the press - the embargo just lifted this morning, so be sure to visit your favorite gaming media outlet for their take on the event and the reveals.

We kicked off the press event with the first-ever demo outside of Naughty Dog halls of UNCHARTED 3: Drake's Deception in stereoscopic 3D. We chose to present a portion of the [Register or Login to view links] sequence we [Register or Login to view links] in late December.

Since most people would already be familiar with the way the sequence looked and played, we thought it would make all the more evident the stellar work the Naughty Dog team has put into making the 3D presentation part of the core Naughty Dog Engine.

In my opinion, with this small snippet of gameplay we've proven that we're able to perfectly...
