92w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein is here with a hands on tour video demo of Sound Shapes for PS Vita from GDC 2012 below today.
To quote: It's Game Developers Conference time once again, and while headlines are a bit light, it's a great place to find game developers (of course).
We'll be bringing you videos, interviews, and conversations over the next several days, as well as a mega GDC Blogcast on Thursday.
The first game we got ahold of here at GDC is upcoming PS Vita musical platformer Sound Shapes. The game is best seen (and heard), so we present here Jason deGroot of Queasy Games.
In this video, deGroot takes you on a tour through a never-before-seen level, as well as sharing the in-game tutorial, so you know exactly what you'll be seeing when you load up Sound Shapes for the first time.
So when do you get to play Sound Shapes on your own personal Vita? The Queasy Games team doesn't yet have a release date, but they confirmed that a pre-release demo is in the making. We'll keep you posted.
144w ago - Today Naughty Dog Community Strategist Arne Meyer shared some new PS3 3D video footage on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and revealed villainess Katherine Marlowe from GDC 2011.
To quote: Evan Wells, Christophe Balestra, Richard Lemarchand and yours truly were to give the demo and speak with the press - the embargo just lifted this morning, so be sure to visit your favorite gaming media outlet for their take on the event and the reveals.
We kicked off the press event with the first-ever demo outside of Naughty Dog halls of UNCHARTED 3: Drake's Deception in stereoscopic 3D. We chose to present a portion of the burning chateau sequence we premiered in late December.
Since most people would already be familiar with the way the sequence looked and played, we thought it would make all the more evident the stellar work the Naughty Dog team has put into making the 3D presentation part of the core Naughty Dog Engine.
In my opinion, with this small snippet of gameplay we've proven that we're able to perfectly...
Sony have touted several new features of the 3.0 iteration and tools, including a new asset pipeline and processing tool, a rewritten level editor, 'more accessible' API and support for entities, scripting, and integrated physics and navigation components.
The engine also integrates with middleware tech from several of Sony's business partners, including Havok, Nvidia and Scaleform.
"We're very happy to see the popularity of PhyreEngine with the global game developer community" said SCEI technology platform SVP Teiji Yutaka.
"It has helped demonstrate our commitment to the game developer community and in particular enable smaller independent developers and publishers to flourish on PS3 and NGP."
Finally, below is the PS3 AI Middleware Press Release from ElectronicTheatre.co.uk (linked above):
Autodesk, Inc. has announced the imminent release of three new middleware...
145w ago - Today JoyStiq.com (linked above), IGN and CVG have made available some Sony NGP (PSP2) Tech Demos video footage from GDC 2011.
The NGP Demos below include Little Deviants, Uncharted Portable, and augmented reality dinosaurplay, and to quote from CVG:
"He first reintroduced the crowd to an old dinosaur video, which Sony used as a tech demo to launch PSOne over a decade ago.
Having walked to the centre of the room, Horikawa then aimed an NGP towards an A3-sized image of a T-Rex on the floor. The rep then raised the camera of the NGP up towards the ceiling, to reveal a virtual jurassic monster as tall as GDC's Moscone Center.
As he moved the NGP down, it showed the beast's neck and body - drawing gasps and applause from the assembled audience."
