125w ago - Following up on our previous article, today MCVUK (linked above) reports that according to their sources Sony is indeed close to acquiring a high-profile cloud gaming firm.

To quote: "In a move that will rock the next generation of console gaming, Sony is close to agreeing an acquisition of a high profile cloud gaming firm, MCV understands.

It was reported earlier this week that Sony was to reveal a partnership with a cloud gaming firm - specifically either OnLive or Gaikai - at E3 next week.

Subsequent chatter had seemingly calmed the rumours, suggesting that the proposed agreement was to do with Sony streaming TV services, and not consoles.

However, MCV understands that the deal is far more extensive than anyone could have predicted and will see Sony fully acquire one of the two firms. The deal, our source says, "is close to being signed".

The acquisition has implications for all parts of Sony's business, both in the consumer tech and console divisions.

Although work on PS4 is already well underway, Sony is very likely keen on bringing its PlayStation gaming content to non-console owners - a move finally made possible...

Hyperdimension Neptunia for PS3: Console Gaming Personified

50°
205w ago - NIS America Marketing Coordinator Ryan Phillips has shared details on Hyperdimension Neptunia for PlayStation 3 today, describing the upcoming PS3 title as console gaming personified.

To quote: I just wanted to stop by to provide you with some tasty tidbits about [Register or Login to view links] for PS3. The epic tale of the meek Neptune, Compa, and IF on their search for Histoire is headed to the U.S. and I wanted to talk more in-depth about the game.

The battle system in Hyperdimension Neptunia provides customizable, varied approaches to gameplay. Each character is able to build combos against mobs and bosses, and depending on how you decide to link or structure your four-command combo, some really powerful abilities and really long chains can be created.

For example, you can use an ability called "Skill Link" as the final hit in your combo chain that will allow combinations to string together and restore some AP (action points) and create higher hit and damage counts.

In other words, if you create a combo as X, X, O, O, with the final O using "Skill Link," you will begin a new combo with O as the first command. Then, you can chain your second combo like, say O, X, X, X, with the final X using "Skill Link,"...

300°
219w ago - Previously Sony refused PlayStation branding on a Sony Ericsson PSP Phone and dismissed such claims of a device as speculation, however, according to [Register or Login to view links] Sony Ericsson is slated to introduce an Android 3.0 gaming platform and PSPgo-like smartphone.

This possible change of heart may be due in part to Sony's recent PlayStation Licensing Program expansion.

According to a 'trusted source' of Engadget, Sony Ericsson will introduce a cross between the PSP Go and an Android phone later this year.

To quote: "The handset is supposed to be a "landscape slider," but instead of a QWERTY keyboard like a mobile phone or regular game controls like the PSP, it will have PlayStation buttons, a d-pad and a "long touch pad" to mimic dual analog input.

Sony Ericsson's device will run Android 3.0, and games will be made available through...
