10w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment America Associate Product Marketing Manager Derek Osgood announced today that Invizimals is coming to PS3 and PS Vita platforms in North America.

To quote: Hi PlayStation fans, we have some exciting news to share with you today! The popular creature hunting franchise, Invizimals, is returning to PlayStation this year in the Americas.

The franchise began as a series of innovative PSP titles in which players hunted down and battled elusive Invizimals using the PSP camera. Today, we're happy to confirm that Invizimals: The Alliance and Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom will be coming to PS Vita and PS3 (respectively) later this year.

Invizimals: The Alliance is the next step in the evolution from the PSP games to the PS Vita. Players will hunt, capture, and battle creatures in order to save the Invizimals from the evil Xtractor Industries robots which have invaded their world.

Invizimals: The Alliance brings next-gen AR gaming to your fingertips with new Markerless AR technology and a variety of capture mini-games using the PS Vita controls. You'll have hours of fun trying to track them all down and battling your friends in the all-new 4-player battle system.

Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom is the first foray onto PS3 for the Invizimals in...

PS4 Mod with 2 TB External SSHD Drive, Better / Cooler Performance

500°
14w ago - Following up on How to Swap In / Upgrade a PS4 HDD, today Paul Statham (aka Placebo) shared how to modify the PS4 to run with a 2 TB External SSHD drive, which he claims boosts better and cooler performance.

To quote: "Paul Statham, who also happens to be Community and PR Manager at ARMA III Developer Bohemia Interactive, is one of those gamers, and decided that the tiny 500 GB 2.5″ HDD provided with the PS4 wasn’t enough for his taste, so he set out to replace it with a massive 3.5″ 2 TB Solid State Hybrid drive.

You’re probably asking yourself: “How the hell did he fit that in the console? It’s too big.” And in fact he didn’t. He purchased a few spare parts and actually mounted the drive externally, thanks to creativity and a bit of technical knowledge.

Modifying the console like that has a few advantages: first of all 3.5″ drives have a cheaper cost per gigabyte than 2.5″ ones, and the SSHD offered also provides better performance.

The issue is that the internal...

PS Plus: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Free for Members

50°
17w ago - Sony Senior Community Specialist Kristine Steimer announced that Sonic & All-Stars Racing will be transformed free for PS Plus members as part of this weeks updates below.

To quote: This week, PlayStation Plus members can take to an ever-changing race track when Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed enters the Instant Game Collection.

The 'transformed' part references the fact that your go kart isn't always cemented to the pavement - if your route should all of a sudden require your little kart to, say, fly, it will. Yep, your vehicle is constantly morphing back and forth between kart, plane and boat, so you'll have to master each type if you want to win.

You can download Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and take advantage of all these PS Plus discounts after the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow, 12/24.

Sony on PS4's Noise Level, Power Consumption & Media Performance

200°
30w ago - Following up on their previous updates, today Sony's SVP has given PlayStation 4 fans more insight into the PS4's noise level, power consumption, media performance and more below.

To quote from DualShockers.com (linked above): "Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn't as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he's the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4.

Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site AV Watch.

Here's a summary of the most relevant points:

  • While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
  • The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there's the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative...

Ibb & Obb on PSN Updated, Enhanced Features and Performance

100°
30w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser announced today alongside a video that Ibb and Obb on PSN has been updated complete with enhanced features and performance.

To quote: It's been about a month since we launched Ibb & Obb, our two-player, cooperative puzzle platformer.

Since the launch, we've been working on a patch to fix some bugs that players found, but also to add some features based on the feedback we got.

The most requested feature was to have indicators showing where players are when they fly off screen. Those are now in, along with d-pad support for those of you who prefer that to the analog stick. Also, we managed to improve general performance quite a bit - now everything runs at 60 FPS in full HD, with anti aliasing on.

For us, some of the most interesting things of the last month are the Let's Play videos that pop up. Often made by players that dive into the game without having played it before or knowing much about it. From a game designer point of view these videos are extremely useful.

We've seen a lot of people play during development, but it's different when players know the game is still unfinished or when they can ask you questions directly. The Let's Play videos feel more real. They show the published product and are often recorded...
