What a Subscription Gets You in Final Fantasy XIV on PlayStation 4

100°
18w ago - Square Enix Community Project Manager Hergen Thaens outlined what a subscription gets PS4 fans in Final Fantasy XIV on PlayStation 4 today.

All of the details are below, to quote: Today's Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn post is especially interesting for those of you that have never played a subscription MMO before, as well as those of you who wonder if a monthly subscription is really for you.

When you buy a single-player game, the expectation is usually the same. Buy the game for the full price, and some DLC will follow. Final Fantasy XIV is fundamentally different, as it's an MMO that will run for years.

With Final Fantasy XIV, your subscription fee will guarantee you regular content updates throughout the lifetime of the game. The first update hit last December with Patch 2.1: A Realm Awoken, and we've just launched the feature site for [Register or Login to view links].

Just a few features (not even all) that will have been added to the original game with 2.1 and 2.2 updates:

• New Main Scenario Quests, continuing your story
• Two new raids
• Housing
• New Dungeons
• New Dungeon Hard Modes
• New primals to fight: Leviathan and Good King Moggle-Mog...

100°
20w ago - Square Enix Community Project Manager Hergen Thaens detailed the 19 classes of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PS4 fans today.

To quote: Welcome to another update on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - the biggest one so far. A lot of you have probably played the first beta phase from February 22nd to March 3rd - barely enough time to get your hands on one or two classes in a single city, right? Well then, let's introduce you to the others!

You're free to start in any of the three cities: Gridania, Ul'dah, or Limsa Lominsa. Most of you will want to get used to the game first, so you can play solo and get acquainted with everything.

Up until level 15, you've got tons of local quests and adventures that await you - and from level 15 onwards, the whole world opens up to you as you get access to the airship and the other cities.

If you want to play with your friends, you simply have to choose classes with the same starting cities, and you can group up right away.

Once you've acquired a class, you can change to it at any given time (outside of combat and dungeons) by simply equipping the weapon associated with it. It's that simple!

So, let's get started, shall we?

Gridania, One with the Forest

Gridania lies in the...

Get the Most Out of Multiplayer in Final Fantasy XIV on PS4

21w ago - Square Enix Community Project Manager Hergen Thaens detailed how to get the most out of PS4 multiplayer in Final Fantasy XIV on PlayStation 4 today.

To quote: For the most part, players can explore the world of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn at their own leisure. But what would an MMO be without some group content? In this blog post, we'll introduce you to the numerous activities that can only be mastered in groups of four to 24.

The realm of Eorzea, with its three city-states, is far-reaching. It has many hidden corners and crevices in which the wicked can find a welcome foothold. Be it the manor of a lady, so struck with vanity that she exchanged sanity for it, or an abandoned mine overrun with beastmen - adventurers are in constant demand, and there's always something to do.

Throughout the game, adventurers will also come across the so-called Primals. How these god-like beings are called into the realm is an important part of the storyline, so we won't give too much away.

The best known example of the sheer destructiveness of the Primals was the coming of the Seventh Umbral Era, brought forth by the elder primal Bahamut, who was freed from his prison in the lesser moon Dalamud. A single, massive battle with Bahamut reshaped the face of Eorzea forever. What happened...

After you've logged in and updated the game, you can go straight to the character creation process. This is really straightforward - choose whatever suits you best! From hulking Roegadyn to tiny Lalafell, all is available to you.

But an important note: if you want to play with friends, you'll want to make sure that you choose classes that start in the same city! It's a long trip from city to city, until you do the quest to access a new travel method at level 15.

While you work yourself through the introduction, you'll be in an instance (a sealed-off area in the game) that only you are in. That's normal - as soon as you've finished the first few quests, you'll find yourself among tons of other players.

The game will introduce the...
