To quote: The creators of Heavy Rain didn't come empty handed to this year's Game Developers Conference. The celebrated studio debuted a powerful new "[Register or Login to view links]" called Kara to show off their new animation and performance-capture technology.

If you've seen Kara, then you know that the results speak for themselves.

Rendered in real time on PS3 hardware, Kara chronicled the activation of a self-aware synthetic organism, but this making-of feature is impressive in its own right as it shows how [Register or Login to view links] assembled several different performances to create a seamless, believable virtual character. The future is now, you guys.

Sony PS4 Console in Development, AMD Building Graphics Tech?

127w ago - A few months back Sony stated that PlayStation 4 is expected to arrive with rival next-generation consoles, and today [Register or Login to view links] reports that PS4 is in development with AMD rumored to be building the system's graphics technology.

To quote: "Sony is working on an as-yet-unannounced new gaming console, former AMD employees say, and the processor designer may play a key role in the new product.

AMD's graphics technology is already used in Microsoft's XBox 360 console. However, Sony's PlayStation 3 - introduced in 2006 - relies on graphics technology from Nvidia.

AMD declined to comment on the project. Sony Chief Transformation Officer George Bailey also declined to discuss Sony's new console, or even acknowledge its existence.

However, at AMD's analyst day last month, AMD Chief Financial Officer Thomas Seifert identified gaming as one of several trends that will drive revenue growth at AMD in 2012."

The NGP Demos below include Little Deviants, Uncharted Portable, and augmented reality dinosaurplay, and to quote from CVG:

"He first reintroduced the crowd to an old dinosaur video, which Sony used as a tech demo to launch PSOne over a decade ago.

Having walked to the centre of the room, Horikawa then aimed an NGP towards an A3-sized image of a T-Rex on the floor. The rep then raised the camera of the NGP up towards the ceiling, to reveal a virtual jurassic monster as tall as GDC's Moscone Center.

As he moved the NGP down, it showed the beast's neck and body - drawing gasps and applause from the assembled audience."

To quote: Today, at the [Register or Login to view links] in San Francisco, we lifted the veil on PlayStation Home's version 1.5, which will be coming to your PS3s in early spring.

The update will introduce a suite of new technology with tools that will enhance your experience with real-time multiplayer, improved physics, as well as more realistic graphics and animations. PlayStation Home v1.5 was developed with one singular goal in mind: high-quality games.

Developers will utilize the improved network mechanics to bolster the multiplayer experience with the fastest action available. With the revamped physics engine, developers will carry more control over physics elements, graphics, rendering and animations, which will translate to more realistic and more intricate game experiences.

This update is significantly different from what you, the PlayStation Home community, have come to expect from past core client updates.

Hustle Kings PS3 Interview with Tech Director Mark Williams

To quote: Programming is maths and, in Hustle Kings, you've had to calculate friction, respect natural laws of spin and momentum, and have all these balls clashing with each other in chaotic order.

Who explained the physics and to you, Stephen Hawking?

Haha, well yes, you are right: programming is maths. Unfortunately, they don't teach you the equations for moving balls around a pool table in school. However, for most things a bit of imagination and intuition can help to combine several basic rules of maths and physics to do things that actually look quite clever.

For the really difficult stuff, we have to rely on other people's work and, luckily for us, one guy by the name of Wayland Marlow spent years researching exactly how billiard balls react with one another and with the table. We use his research extensively in Hustle Kings to get the motion of the balls as close to real life as possible.
