16w ago - Sony Community Manager Ramone Russell at San Diego Studios has shared a video today spotlighting the hitting enhancements in MLB '13 The Show for PS3 today.

To quote: Hitting is such an important aspect in baseball, and it's an area we continually strive to make as realistic as possible. Last year we introduced our True Ball Physics engine to the franchise for ultra-realistic ball physics.

This year we've done even more work to really make this area of the game as dynamic as possible with true to life outcomes. Take a look at what we've done to make hitting in MLB '13 The Show more accessible to everyone.

We really want to make hitting more streamlined for players. Beginner mode allows people who have never played The Show - or have struggled with it - to learn the fundamentals of hitting. It's meant to teach you the basics of Plate Discipline, Pitch Recognition and Timing.





This mode uses adaptive A.I. that only advances as you do. If you take longer to get the hang of hitting in The Show, you won't be forced to advance. The A.I. will only advance once you've passed a certain threshold at each level.

First off, I want to tell you about some DmC add-on content that we just announced. Called Vergil's Downfall, it features six brand new missions, in new environments where you play as Dante's twin brother Vergil.

Vergil has his own unique combat system (if you know Vergil from the previous games you'll recognize some of his signature moves) and the story, which is intertwined with the events of the main game, takes place in Vergil's very own personal hell. Lovely!

You'll also get to take on new enemies and upgrade Vergil's combat as you play. Once you've completed all the new missions you'll have four new difficulty modes to unlock including Son of Sparda and Vergil Must Die, both of which feature unique enemy waves and enemy behaviours that are different from those in the three default difficulty settings.

The videogame medium is unique in the respect that it borrows from many other media, such as movies, radio, and the written word. The one aspect that separates games from movies or books is their ability to interact. But there are other distinctions worth mentioning, too.

A book is conventionally about the text; a movie is the combination of sound and pictures. A game experience, however, can be crafted using a varied palette and with a more unpredictable focus.

The balance between the different media incorporated within a game differs from project to project. That is the strength of videogames as a medium - but also the challenge for consumers.

As players, we usually carry our own set of expectations and opinions regarding the balance between the games' different sides. Some people prefer titles all about the story; others would discard anything that doesn't demonstrate visual beauty.
