153w ago - Update #2: GeoHot has now released GeoHot_1st.self (first signed PS3 homebrew on Firmware 3.55) and Lv2diag.self (also Lv2diag.elf in ELF format) stating the following: "...and this is a real self, hello world although it's not NPDRM, so it won't run off the hard drive. shouts to the guys who did PSL1GHT. without you, I couldn't release this. first piece of homebrew you can run, put in service mode, put on usb stick, boot."
Next up, Ifcaro has released PUPView BETA, to quote roughly translated: "PUPView is a GUI application used to view and extract the contents of the PUP update files for the PlayStation 3. At the moment it will only permit you to extract, but I also have plans to simplify the creation of new PUP files thanks to the new keys released "
In other PS3 hacking news today, KaKaRoToKs has released a PS3 PUP Packing Tool, a PS3 OFW to CFW Script and Fix_TAR...
157w ago - Following up on the PS3 Master Key news and his previous work, today via xorloser's blog graf_chokolo has confirmed that he has decrypted several PS3 SELF files including LV2_Kernel.self and is currently working on PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.50 decryption now.
To quote: Guys, i was not idle again I'm able now to decrypt lv2_kernel.self, ps2_emu.self, ps2_softemu.self and ps2_gxemu.self from 3.41 firmware by using metldr and lv2ldr directly.
I'm working now on 3.50 decryption $ONY changes something in 3.42 and 3.50
I will make everything public very soon, as usually.
158w ago - A few weeks back graf_chokoloannounced that he decrypted PS3 Firmware 3.50 and work on a free public PS3 Downgrader was underway, followed by a PSGroove Payload update to decrypt PKGs from PlayStation 3 PUP Files with today's update including the OtherOS.self and Lv2diag.self from a PS3 Service JIG decrypted!
160w ago - Just a few days back we saw a video of PS Downgrade software by the PSJailBreak Team in action, and today graf_chokolo has posted on xorloser's blog (linked above) that he has decrypted PS3 Firmware 3.50 and while it's still a WIP it could very well lead to a free public PlayStation 3 downgrader alternative.
To quote: I am able now to decrypt and decompress CORE_OS_PACKAGE.pkg from PS3 PUP-Files. The decrypted and decompressed package is a copy of FLASH region where all the important SELFs and isolated SPUs stored, e.g. lv1.self or isoldr.
So, now i could downgrade PS3 by writing this decrypted image to FLASH manually, without Update Manager from HV. In fact, Update Manager just do this But the problem is, that the SHA-1 hash values for these files are stored not in flash but in SC EEPROM and i don't have access to it yet
