Square Enix Announces a Winter of RPGs Campaign on PSN

400°
160w ago - Square Enix Product Manager Charles McCarter has announced news today of their upcoming Winter of RPGs Campaign on PlayStation Network, which includes popular titles Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI.

To quote: I'm here to announce Square Enix's "Winter of RPGs" campaign.

In some parts of North America, winter seems to have gotten an early head start. And while that brings a lot of headaches for those who have to contend with ice and snow, it's also a perfect time for us to announce our latest group of titles coming to PSN.

So, while you're staying inside and out of the cold, icky weather, why not fire up your PS3 and play some classic RPGs? We've got some great games lined up to get you through the cold days ahead.

So what's up first? Some of you may have noticed my responses to reader comments in my last column. And even last week, readers of "The Drop" were asking when we'd see this particular title arrive.

Well, get ready to travel not through time, but through alternate realities when Chrono Cross releases. Join Serge as he finds himself in a world where he died as a young child, meets the enigmatic thief Kid, and goes on a quest for the artifact known as the Frozen Flame!

The sequel to Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross delivers...

Video: Resistance 3: Campaign Tour and PS3 Multiplayer Report

100°
184w ago - Sony's Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman shared a PS3 Multiplayer report today alongside a fresh Resistance 3: Campaign Tour video available below.

To quote: Earth's cities lie silent. Mankind teeters on the brink of extinction. The Chimera have won. Six years after the Chimera invaded in Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 3 depicts a bleak world where the survivors have laid down their weapons and curled into seclusion to await the inevitable.

One such survivor is Joseph Capelli, last seen (spoiler!) executing series frontman Nathan Hale at the conclusion of Resistance 2. With Resistance 3's narrative focus shifting from military might to hometown heroism, the gaunt-looking Capelli stands in stark contrast to Resistance 2's square-jawed super soldier.

Having abandoned the fight to be with his wife and child, Capelli holes up in rural Oklahoma to evade Chimeran raiders and scavenge for ever-dwindling supplies.

A chance visit by xenobiologist [Register or Login to view links] reveals a desperate plan to destroy the Chimera in New York City, sparking a road trip through an American heartland warped by the Chimera's corrosive influence.

Video: Klei Details Challenges of Shank's PSN Co-Op Campaign

50°
226w ago - Today [Register or Login to view links] Co-Founder Jamie Cheng has detailed the challenges of Skank's PSN co-op campaign as part of an EA video interview.

To quote: I'd like to share our journey leading up to our decision to include a co-op campaign in our new title, [Register or Login to view links] - and why we felt so strong about creating it as a separate mode altogether.

When Shank was shown at PAX 2009, there were two questions that I couldn't answer which came up over and over again. The first was, "What platform is it coming out on?" The second "is there going to be co-op?"

I answered the first question, with my own question. I stuffed our dev kit into a ghetto cardboard box, labeled with a large question-mark and strung a handful of controllers (including Atari and Dreamcast ones) from underneath it for added effect.

At the time, nobody had played Shank, and I didn't have platform approval yet. Thankfully, the gaming community and our fans spoke up, and I got my wish – we were able to negotiate a deal to bring the game to the PlayStation Network.

The second, co-op question - proved to be much trickier.

On one hand, we felt strongly about the classic, couch-play...
