LittleBigPlanet Sales Begin Early at WalMart and Target Stores

50°
309w ago - According to many reports (including several in our own Forums HERE), retailers including WalMart and Target have been selling copies of LittleBigPlanet despite the game's official launch being delayed due to the alleged offensive material included.

Needless to say, it's probably best to call your local store up before you rush out to grab a copy though.

To quote: It seems that two huge retailers seem to have missed the boat on the recall, namely Wal-Mart and Target. That's right, I just picked up my copy of LittleBigPlanet at midnight here in my hometown. A quick phone call to all the surrounding cities' superstores brought similar responses. It's for sale, and that's the truth. This has been your ThatVideoGameBlog.com public service announcement.

Sony and Microsoft Begin Battle of Virtual Worlds

50°
310w ago - The console kids both announced Second Life-style virtual environments at the Tokyo Game Show today. Both games show striking similarities to Linden Lab's creation.

Players are represented by avatars which live a virtual life - engaging in relationships, going about day-to-day business. These can be personalised to look as similar (or different) to how the user looks in real life.

Sony's "Home" virtual world for the Playstation 3 will be released on November 19th, after its delay twice already. It will go up against Microsoft's Xbox 360 "New Xbox Experience".

Ryoji Akagawa of Sony said that around 24 game design companies would provide the content needed for Home - but didn't give much else away.

Game expert, Hirokazu Hamamura head of Japanese publisher Enterbrain told Associated Press, "You still can't tell what (Home)'s all about."

Microsoft's John Schappert said, "Our goal is to make the Xbox experience more visual, easier to use, more fun to use and more social...We focused a lot on friends and other experiences outside just playing games."

Let virtual battle commence.

YouTube to Begin Selling Music and Video Games

50°
311w ago - Popular video-sharing site YouTube will soon begin to sell video games and music as part of a new advertising push, according to a Reuters report (linked above).

Through a partnership with Amazon.com, YouTube pages will feature a button that takes users to the online retailer, where they will be able to buy video games, songs, and music videos. The site will also offer an iTunes link for music downloads.

Acquired by search giant Google for $1.65 billion in 2006, YouTube is estimated to pull in $200 million via ad revenue across 2009, going by analyst predictions.

That figure marks a stark contrast to the Google's own advertising revenues, which are expected to reach $27 billion in 2009.
