Creating Authentic Universes in Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse

250°
34w ago - Activision Lead Producer Andy Owen has outlined what it takes to create authentic universes in Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse today.

To quote: Making a licensed game is hard. Making a good licensed game is hard.

As huge Family Guy fans, when the opportunity came to make a game based on the hilarious TV show, with Heavy Iron Studios at the helm, it was impossible to pass up.

But there was one giant hurdle we had to get over in order to make a good Family Guy game - we don't work at Fuzzy Door, Seth MacFarlane's production company, and we aren't involved in any way with the Family Guy TV show.

And it wouldn't matter how much effort we put into the graphics, or the level design, or the action. If it didn't feel like Family Guy - if it wasn't funny, or if Stewie shouted "Blast!" and it was clear we'd just hired some actor to do a mediocre Stewie impression - fans would hate it. WE would hate it.

We knew that if we were going to do this, we had to do it right. Everything from the script to the presentation to the way it will make you feel playing on your couch at home had to feel like Seth MacFarlane took a coding class and made it himself.

If we wanted to create a...

Starhawk Brings Back Splitscreen Head-to-Head, Co-op Multiplayer

200°
65w ago - Sony Senior Producer Harvard Bonin has announced today that Starhawk is bringing back splitscreen head-to-head and co-op multiplayer action on the PlayStation 3 entertainment system!

To quote: As most Warhawk players know, there's nothing quite like "couch gaming!" That is to say, playing video games on the same TV with a friend.

Lots of games have it: Games like Dance Today, Dance Forever, Dance 2 Dance, Dance Dancy Dance, or even Dance Your Self Esteem Away. Dancing is fine and all, but there's nothing that can quite replace the thrill of fragging the buddy sitting next to you - especially if he's being a lame hillbilly (deep, deep love of shotguns).

In Warhawk, you could play with some friends in the same room and have a proper night of gaming: Face to face and frag to frag while sharing nachos, smack talk, and profanity. Good times!

So we're happy to let you know that Starhawk has the exact same feature! OK...not the EXACT same feature. We've spent some time making it better, we think.

Two-Player Split Screen:

Yes, we've got splitscreen play. You can play with another friend on the same PS3 on the same TV. We are very aware that some of you wanted four-player splitscreen like Warhawk.

We thought about it a...

Video: Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand Hits PS3 a Week Early Today

100°
80w ago - DICE Junior Product Manager Tommy Rydling has announced alongside a new video trailer that Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand hits PS3 a week early today!

To quote: With the PlayStation Store update later today, you will be able to buy, download and play Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand on PS3.

To celebrate launch day, here is an all-new gameplay trailer showcasing Wake Island running on PlayStation 3 hardware. I hope you like what we have done to this classic Battlefield map, and that you enjoy your one-week PS3 exclusive head start on this expansion pack.

Once you have downloaded Back to Karkand, the four new maps (Wake Island, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula) will be available in the server browser and in the Quick Match filter settings just like the nine maps from the base game.

There will be servers that mix and match maps from the base game and Back to Karkand, so you will never have to commit to playing either base game or Back to Karkand maps in your gaming session.

That's it for today; keeping it short and sweet so I can go back to chasing my new Assignments. Hope you enjoyed the launch trailer, and hope to see you online. Let us know what you think about Back...

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand Hits PlayStation 3 on PSN Tuesday

400°
81w ago - DICE Product Manager Tommy Rydling has announced today that Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand for PlayStation 3 hits PSN Tuesday with new guns, vehicles and assignments.

Below are the details, to quote: I hope you are ready to go Back to Karkand, as we are releasing our first Battlefield 3 expansion pack Tuesday, December 6th on PlayStation 3 in America and Europe - a week early for PlayStation customers!

To recap, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is a massive themed expansion pack featuring four legendary Battlefield maps reimagined in the Frostbite 2 engine.

You also get three vehicles (the VSTOL fighter jet, Desert Buggy, and an APC), ten new weapons that you can bring back to the base game, a new layer of persistence with our all-new Assignments, plus five shiny Trophies.

The maps we chose for this expansion pack are all classic fan favorites: Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Strike at Karkand (from where the expansion pack got its name). These maps are about all-out warfare in a variety of settings and have collectedly been played literally billions of times by our players.

Now, they are due for a reimagining with the power of the Frostbite 2 engine. This allows us do things like take the level of destruction to ridiculous heights. You can...

SingStar Back To The 80s is Now Working on PS3 3.55 CFW

650°
84w ago - SingStar Back To The 80s, a PS3 3.72 Firmware game, is now working on PS3 3.55 CFW by using the SingStar Queen PlayStation 3 update file with the SingStar Back To The 80s PS3 LiGHTFORCE release.

Below are the related PlayStation 3 downloads and a brief guide for PS3 Custom Firmware users, as follows:

Tutorial:

1. Download this SingStar Queen .PKG update file and install it on your PS3.

2. Use a SFO editor to change the game ID from BCES01257 to BCES00494 and let multiMAN change the FW to 3.55 (or do it yourself), or download this modified PARAM.SFO File by Descrambler and replace the original one.

3. Run the game on multiMAN and it should work.

P.S. Don't install any other updates or the game won't work!

What this does is use the 3.55 FW update from SingStar Queen to work on SinSstar back to 80's (a 3.72 game) making it run on 3.55 CFW.

Download links from PS3MOR: Password: Hcfkl2585FDrkUH1274ggf (or try morsayfa but the first should work)
