207w ago - Today Sony's Hardware Marketing Director John Koller has announced news of a new PlayStation Protection Plan for those seeking added peace of mind with their PS3 and PSP product purchases.

To quote: Many of you can attest to the fact that the PlayStation brand has long been synonymous with the highest quality in engineering and design.

For those of you looking for a little extra peace of mind, we're now offering an extended service plan for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PSP (PlayStation Portable) systems that is backed by SCEA and leverages our technical expertise. Under the new program, PS3 and PSP owners in the United States can purchase an extended service plan of one or two years that begins after the original one-year manufacturer's limited warranty expires.

With the PlayStation Protection Plan, you can extend the same coverage from the original manufacturer's one-year warranty for one or two additional years. The pricing includes all shipping charges and repairs, which are performed by PlayStation-trained service technicians at SCEA-authorized repair facilities.

The PlayStation Protection Plan is available beginning in May 2010. PSP owners can also choose the Accidental Damage Plan, which provides coverage for cracked-screen damage in the event of an unexpected...

223w ago - Today Rock Band 2 Lead Designer Dan Teasdale has announced that a new Rock Band 2 PS3 software update is on the way that includes some long-awaited fan feature requests.

To quote: I'm proud to announce that the Rock Band team has finalized a software update for Rock Band 2 on the PlayStation 3 that addresses some common feature requests from our fans.

We've also added some great new functionality that we think you'll be excited to try out when the software update arrives this Thursday.

This update wouldn't be possible without the feedback and suggestions that we receive from everyone in both the Rock Band and PlayStation communities. Everybody here at Harmonix takes your forum posts and suggestions to heart, and we wouldn't be able to make our games as awesome as they are without all of the feature requests and feedback that we get from you on a daily basis.

So from all of us here at Harmonix, thank you, and please keep letting us know what you'd like to see in future updates and games!

Sony's Life With PlayStation Gets 'World Heritage' Channel Added

100°
244w ago - Today Sony has updated Life with PlayStation by adding a completely new channel titled 'World Heritage' to it.

It's a simple update, as the channel includes information from various Web sites (including Wikipedia) from multiple areas around the world.

To quote: If you leave your controller for a long enough time, it automatically begins spinning the globe (like the other channels) and displays hi-res pictures from the areas you're hovering above about.

If you would like to see a picture from a designated area, then you can hover the country, hit 'X' and then press the 'start' button.

An overall nice addition to the free application, allowing many Life with PlayStation fans to do even more while helping the common good.

Noob to be One Millionth English Word Added to the Dictionary?

50°
258w ago - It doesn't seem possible that "English language milestone" and the word "noob" could every be uttered in the same sentence, let along in direct reference to one another. But if current trends continue, "noob" might just become the one-millionth word in the English language.

Tech Radar reports that the Global Language Monitor, which claims a word is "new" once it has been used 25,000 times by media outlets and other public sources including social networks, says the momentous word will arrive on June 10, 2009 at 10:22 AM.

Apparently, some of the other words vying for the coveted position are "defollow" (I guess no one has time for "stop following" these days), "greenwashing" and "chiconomics". There's a countdown clock over at the Global Language Monitor's Web site in case you don't want to miss a single second of this historic event. And honestly, who wouldn't?

How many people would love to see "noob" be our millionth word, and how many n00bs would be horribly embarrassed?
