180w ago - Today Rock Band 2 Lead Designer Dan Teasdale has announced that a new Rock Band 2 PS3 software update is on the way that includes some long-awaited fan feature requests.
To quote: I'm proud to announce that the Rock Band team has finalized a software update for Rock Band 2 on the PlayStation 3 that addresses some common feature requests from our fans.
We've also added some great new functionality that we think you'll be excited to try out when the software update arrives this Thursday.
This update wouldn't be possible without the feedback and suggestions that we receive from everyone in both the Rock Band and PlayStation communities. Everybody here at Harmonix takes your forum posts and suggestions to heart, and we wouldn't be able to make our games as awesome as they are without all of the feature requests and feedback that we get from you on a daily basis.
So from all of us here at Harmonix, thank you, and please keep letting us know what you'd like to see in future updates and games!
This update includes:
• "Sort by Stars" in Quickplay. If you hit the "Sort" button on the Song Select screen, you'll come to a brand new sort...
201w ago - Today Sony has updated Life with PlayStation by adding a completely new channel titled 'World Heritage' to it.
It's a simple update, as the channel includes information from various Web sites (including Wikipedia) from multiple areas around the world.
To quote: If you leave your controller for a long enough time, it automatically begins spinning the globe (like the other channels) and displays hi-res pictures from the areas you're hovering above about.
If you would like to see a picture from a designated area, then you can hover the country, hit 'X' and then press the 'start' button.
An overall nice addition to the free application, allowing many Life with PlayStation fans to do even more while helping the common good.
214w ago - It doesn't seem possible that "English language milestone" and the word "noob" could every be uttered in the same sentence, let along in direct reference to one another. But if current trends continue, "noob" might just become the one-millionth word in the English language.
Tech Radar reports that the Global Language Monitor, which claims a word is "new" once it has been used 25,000 times by media outlets and other public sources including social networks, says the momentous word will arrive on June 10, 2009 at 10:22 AM.
Apparently, some of the other words vying for the coveted position are "defollow" (I guess no one has time for "stop following" these days), "greenwashing" and "chiconomics". There's a countdown clock over at the Global Language Monitor's Web site in case you don't want to miss a single second of this historic event. And honestly, who wouldn't?
How many people would love to see "noob" be our millionth word, and how many n00bs would be horribly embarrassed?
222w ago - The PlayStation 3 launched in late 2006. Since then, Sony has added plenty of new features via constant firmware updates. Here are the top five added firmware update features on the PlayStation 3.
5. Background Downloading (PlayStation 3 Firmware Version 1.60)
Downloading content from the Playstation Store was a major pain in the early days. You have to stay on the same screen for long periods of time (in some cases, hours). Not to mention that you can't resume from the same point if you disconnected.
Playstation 3 Firmware Version 1.60 fixes that cumbersome problem by enabling background downloading, which let gamers perform other functions while in the process of downloading. In addition, you can resume a download anytime and automatically shut down the Playstation 3 once the download is complete.
4. BD-LIVE (PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.20)
For the longest time, the Playstation 3 was the best Blu-ray player on the market. The main reason for its success was the ability to upgrade to a higher profile. Therefore, the Playstation 3 was able to stay ahead of the curve by upgrading Blu-ray Profile to 1.1 and then 2.0 (BD-LIVE). It isn't just Blu-ray movies either; firmware updates also added Windows Media, DIVX and Flash media support for the Playstation 3.
