128w ago - EA Mobile Senior Producer Christophe Gomez has posted up a new video today spotlighting Tetris PSN in 1080p and 5.1 with PS3-exclusive multiplayer action!

To quote: We are launching Tetris on PlayStation Network and it'll be available to download from the PSN store in very early next year.

This version of Tetris boasts 5.1 Dolby Sound, 1080P HD graphics, plus six online and local multiplayer modes.

Of course, you can play Marathon mode by yourself in the boldest and brightest graphics ever, but what we're really excited about are three new PS3-exclusive multiplayer modes that will make this a must-have.

I can't go into much detail, but these new online, real-time multiplayer modes will be more fun and competitive than anything you've seen before.





A couple of weeks ago Alexi Pajitnov, the original creator of Tetris, got to try out this new PS3 version and absolutely loved it. And since we know how excited you are, we have a trailer ready to showcase just how awesome this gets.

149w ago - Over the weekend JoyStiq revealed that Sony is limiting use of 1080p 3D in PS3 games while opting for 720p, and today both PC World (linked above) and Eurogamer explain why Sony mandates 720p for PS3 3D while admitting the PlayStation 3 can do 3D 1080p.

Sony's Simon Benson confirmed that the PS3 can do 3D gaming in 1080p, but developers are generally encouraged to keep PS3 3D games at 720p due to frame rates and related issues that may arise with 1080p in PlayStation 3 3D gaming.

To quote: "3D exacerbates the issue, requiring the system process two discrete interlaced images--one for each eye--to fake depth perception.

In an undated tech presentation by a Sony engineer, the engineer admits "rendering two images from the same hardware may require compromises or limit the possibilities," citing performance ("the scene must be rendered twice"), VRAM usage ("the frame buffer may be larger in some cases"), and resolution limits ("more pixels may be processed") as mitigating factors in the list of technical considerations."
