Sony Announces Vidzone Service for the PlayStation 3 Console

400°
273w ago - As part of Sony's Pause event in Sydney, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia announced a new service coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 - Vidzone.

The new service is an optional download that places a new icon on the cross-media bar (XMB), allowing access to a massive number of music videos on demand.

VidZone will also be bringing live concert videos, as well as behind the scenes, interviews and making of footage, to your TV when it launches on PS3.

To quote: According to Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, the service is aiming for a June launch, possibly to coincide with E3 - though this is subject to change.

The service itself, which is listed under 'music' on the XMB as a small TV set with a 'Z' in it, is free to all PS3 owners who choose to install the application. However, revenue appears to be generated from ad placement within the browser window.

While in the Vidzone, you can search for artists, by track, genre or album and you can save playlists. The menu is a simple up/down scroll through letters, rather than the pop-up menu generally used.

The selected video can be maximized with a tap of select, instantly filling the screen with sharp, streaming video content. You can also pause, fast-forward...

Enormous Update Coming to Sony's PlayStation Home

200°
273w ago - PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star broke news today on an enormous update that will be heading to Sony's PlayStation Home.

To quote: Locust_Star here dropping in to give you the straight truth on what new goodies to expect in PlayStation Home this week. Simply put, this is one of the biggest content updates in the history of Home - and we think you're going to dig what we have in store for you.

By popular demand, we have brought the Siren: Blood Curse space over from Japan (this space will appear in the [Register or Login to view links] at a later date). The basic overview is this: The Siren Home space is broken up into three basic zones. When you first enter the Siren space, you're outside the Ward of Despair, in what looks like an old, rundown carnival space. The entrance to the Ward is just a few steps away.

Upon entering it, you'll find yourself in the mini-game's lobby. Inside you'll see video screens on the walls and places to sit and mingle with other players waiting their turn to enter the Ward of Despair mini game.

When you're ready to play, simply approach the receptionist and she'll send you into the Ward (assuming that the background downloading is complete, which begins upon entry to the lobby...

273w ago - SCEA Associate Producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda announced today news that PSP Patapons are set to invade both retail as well as Sony's PlayStation Home online community.

To quote: It's a beautiful [Register or Login to view links] and as we speak, thousands of magical keys (read: PSN vouchers) are heading towards a destination near you...ready to unlock the internet's mighty download powers, filling your PSP with Patapon bliss.

In addition to these vouchers hitting the store shelves, on Thursday, May 7th, you will all be able to download Patapon 2 from the PlayStation Network and the Patapon 2 mass consumption can begin.

But that's not the only thing happening on May 7th.

We also wanted to announce really exciting Home exclusives (two actually). First: yours truly will be featured in the Home Theater, answering a few of questions posted in the forums by the Home Community.

Second: We've decided that this Thursday is also Home avatar makeover day...so we are giving you an exclusive Patapon 2 t-shirt (for boys and girls!). It's definitely time for you to upgrade your Home look with something more Eyeballish and warrior like.

Now, be honest... wouldn't you want to dress up your Home avatar...

Patapon 2 PSP Demo Arrives on Sony's PlayStation Network

50°
274w ago - SCEA Associate Producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda has let us know on the PlayStation Blog that the Patapon 2 PSP demo has arrived today.

To quote: The long-awaited much-anticipated PlayStation Network Patapon 2 Demo has been released for mass consumption (i.e. everyone!), so set your PSPs to download and get ready for the war-tastic ethereal musical bliss known as Patapon 2.

What you get, get, get with this fantastic free download is five levels of pure greatness full of Hero Patapon, Patagate, Mater the Tree of Life and all the evolution you can shake a Darwin-sized stick at.

So let's rewind a bit: back in the glorious days of Patapon 1, this majestic perennial (above) was the birthing (and reviving) spot of all Patapon warriors. If you had a couple of rare items and coffers full of ka-ching, you could grow yourself some Rarepons...but it was a bit of a gamble.

Enter Patapon 2, and introducing Mater 2.0, now with Evolution System! It's Patapon creation and reanimation minus the guess work! With the new Evolution System you can clearly see your Patapon's potential and work towards getting him there.

The Evolution System can be simplified into two separate portions: transformation and brawn. The transformation portion is fairly straightforward and linear.
