223w ago - Today 2K Games released the first look at BioShock 2's multiplayer mode on GameTrailers TV.
The multiplayer takes place during the fall of Rapture, the underwater city where BioShock and its sequel are set. Players are apparently Sinclair Solutions test subjects who have turned on each other.
They'll use a variety of tonics, plasmids, and good old fashioned firearms to take out opponents. In addition to all the fireballs and shotguns, there's also going to be turrets. Oh, and players will be able to transform into a Big Daddy and steamroll everyone.
BioShock 2's multiplayer development is being handled by Digital Extremes while 2K Marin focuses on the single-player. The game's due in the first half of 2010.
The video's caption reads as follows: Join the battle under the sea as any of these genetically modified characters!
236w ago - Today Naughty Dog Multiplayer Designer Justin Richmond has officially announced that the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves PS3 Multiplayer Beta starts on June 3, 2009.
To quote: For the past few years, we here at Naughty Dog have been cranking away at creating not only a new single player adventure for Nathan Drake, but an awesome new online experience as well.
It has taken blood, sweat, and possibly even a few tears to get to this point, but on June 3, you can get the first crack at a small slice of the multiplayer modes we'll pack into the full game.
Everything in the Uncharted 2 multiplayer experience has been designed to get you into the game and playing quickly, so you can just skip this blog post if you're really that impatient. Just kidding.
When you boot up the beta you'll find we've included 2 playlists for you to try out: co-op and competitive. If you've got friends, we've made it easy to play together - just hit the triangle button to see your PSN friends list and you can send them an invite, join their party, or just check out their profile. Keep in mind that for the beta, the party size is limited to 5 for competitive and 3 for co-op!
Let's give you a quick rundown of our two playlists so you can be ready day one...
241w ago - Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein shared the following Uncharted 2 update, as follows:
After yesterday's big Uncharted 2 announcement, I'm sure you've got lots of questions. Once the co-op and competitive modes were revealed to the media last week, I know I did.
Fortunately, I was able to grab quite a few minutes with Justin Richmond, game designer with Naughty Dog. We chatted about Uncharted 2's modes, how melee translates into multiplayer, and the presence of Elena and Sully.
Now, we didn't forget about *your* questions for Naughty Dog. Chris'll have that video for you soon.
241w ago - Today Naughty God Co-President Evan Wells announced the following news via PlayStation Blog:
So the rumors are true and we can finally talk about it! As you've heard and read, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves will have both competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes.
We managed to keep the secret completely safe for over a year and a half, but right in the home stretch before the embargo lifted today, word got out all over the internet. Of course the leaked info was only the tip of the iceberg and there is a ton of coverage being released today on dozens and dozens of Web sites.
Check out a multiplayer trailer we just finished before the weekend.
So, pick your favorite videogame news site and go check out the coverage from our event last week. If print magazines are your thing, we've gotten word that we'll also be in more than a few magazines around the world in the next few weeks.
If you've been looking closely at our interviews, our team here at Naughty Dog has been growing rapidly and we now have quite a few more Dogs on staff than when work finished on UNCHARTED: Drake's Fortune. It shouldn't be a surprise that we had to grow our studio to tackle the task of...
242w ago - The switch on Sony's electrifying announcement may have just been flipped, as a Best Buy pre-order box for inFamous reveals the existence of a multiplayer beta test for Uncharted 2.
To quote: Sony began teasing "an electrifying announcement" to take place on April 27th regarding both Sucker Punch's inFamous and Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
Today a reader sent us this photo of a batch of newly opened Best Buy pre-order placeholder boxes for inFamous, which indicate that not only do pre-orders score players early access to the inFamous demo, they also receive a voucher for entry into the multiplayer beta test for Uncharted 2.
They key word here is multiplayer. Announcing that the sequel to one of the best single-player games on the PlayStation 3 is adding a multiplayer component certainly qualifies as electrifying. I'm certain we'll hear much more on this come April 27th.
