Video: MLB 10 The Show Celebrates the Opening of Target Field

50°
232w ago - Today SCEA PR Manager Eric Levine has shared a MLB 10 The Show PS3 video celebrating the opening of Target Field.

To quote: It's always exciting to see new stadiums pop up. The amenities, the technology, and just the overall ambiance of new parks always adds to the experience of seeing a game live and in-person.

Today, our cover athlete, [Register or Login to view links], will be taking the field for his home opener at a brand new address that includes real grass, fresh air, and clear skies (hopefully).

The Twins will play host to the Red Sox as they say good-bye to the Metrodome, their home since 1982, and say hello to the state-of-the-art sports cathedral that is [Register or Login to view links].

So, to celebrate this historic day for Joe and Minnesota fans everywhere, we thought we'd give you a behind the scenes look into how we created the Twins new home in MLB 10 The Show.

Our development team strives for ultimate realism in all areas of the game, and that's no different in this case. I hope you enjoy the glimpse into the making of Target Field. Welcome to The Show!

Open Remote Play (ORP) v1.3 for the Nokia N900 Released

350°
246w ago - Inspired by the recent Nokia N900 via BlueMaemo video, today kakarotoks has ported PS3 Open Remote Play (ORP) for the Nokia N900.

Download: Open Remote Play (ORP) v1.3 for Nokia N900

To quote: For those interested, here's a build of Open Remote Play running on the N900.

Just follow the instructions... I didn't bother creating a .deb, so just scp those files somewhere on your N900 (like /opt/orp) and run /opt/orp/orpui directly through xterm or using ssh.

It works, but it seems that the rendering with the SDL is extremely CPU hungry so it's slower than bearable, not usable at all actually... The UI also needs some work. I had to disable the bitrate setting in the profile edition page, because it didn't fit in the resolution of the screen, and there was no scrollbar, so it was impossible to save the ip address of the ps3.

The input key bindings also need to be changed since they refer to non existing keys on the N900 keyboard (F1/F2/F3/F4/Escape/etc..). I tried to take a screencast, but it didn't work...

GeoHot Resumes Sony PS3 Hacking, Opens PS3 Hacks Blog

1300°
247w ago - This weekend GeoHot, the hacker responsible for several Apple iPhone hacks, has returned to Sony PS3 hacking after his initial announcement a few months back and has opened a PS3 hacks blog (linked above).

He recently made this [Register or Login to view links]:

"I just pulled everything from the USB bus... [Register or Login to view links] the Cell processor SPI bus, PS3 is going down :-)"

These are the latest posts on his new PS3 hacks blog:

Cell SPI

The Cell processor has an SPI port which is used to configure the chip on startup. Well documented [Register or Login to view links]. It also allows hypervisor level MMIO registers to be accessed. In the PS3, the south bridge sets up the cell, and the traces connecting them are on the bottom layer of the board. Cut them and stick an FPGA between.

Quick theoretical attack. Set an SPU's user memory region to overlap with the current HTAB. Change the HTAB to allow read/write to the hypervisor! If that works it's full compromise...
