Sony's PlayStation Network Gets 'Connect'ed with PSN-Connect

50°
266w ago - Similar to Sony's PlayStationCloud.com domain that was uncovered a few weeks back, today PlayStationLifestyle (linked above) have discovered yet another hint of what's to come for PlayStation Network.

SCEA has apparently registered PSN-Connect.com this past April, to quote:

There is more evidence that PSN-Connect is some sort of website/service that Sony is prepping for PSN users. This domain, is currently hosted on a dedicated server.

That means this domain, is on a server all by it's lonesome, which likely means this bad boy is expected to get some decent traffic. Not something a "parked" domain name would need.

When I first heard PSN-Connect, I thought instantly of Sony's now defunct music-download service.

However this could be anything from a music service, to a social networking service for the PlayStation Network. Or it could be merely a way to access your PSN account via the web, and message friends, etc.

Speculation: What is Known on Sony's PlayStation 4 Console

550°
267w ago - It's no secret that Sony has been working on the PlayStation 4 for a good two years now, and rumors abound that Sony will bring forward its launch to 2011/2012 to directly take on Microsoft's proposed launch of its next Xbox.

All this talk of will it, won't it? or 'will PlayStation 3 be Sony's last PlayStation?' are largely irrelevant. It's happening, the real question is: what form will the console take?

What follows is a list of possible functions based on what experts inside and outside of Sony have been saying, both current and future trends in the videogame, multimedia and Internet markets, to quote:

Sony successfully pioneered the first truly mainstream games console with the PlayStation 2 by first appealing to an early adopting customer and then, later, opening up the console to a wider market with aggressive pricing, marketing and a range of products (EyeToy, Singstar) that appealed to your non-traditional gamers.

In this regard, PlayStation 3 has failed to learn the lessons that Sony itself once taught. It appeared that only Nintendo was listening.

Nintendo's Wii has proved that the games/software market is much bigger than anyone had previously imagined - PlayStation 4, therefore, needs to appeal to geeks and grannies alike or it will simply...

Survey Hints at Netflix Coming to Sony's PlayStation 3 Console?

250°
268w ago - A new Netflix survey is making the rounds on the Internet; this time it features questions on PS3 support.

Will Netflix be making its way to Sony's PlayStation 3 console after all?

To quote: A survey from Netflix hints at the potential future of the Netflix service, including PlayStation 3 support.

With the one-year anniversary of Netflix's appearance on the XBOX 360 approaching, it's entirely possible that the movie and TV rental service is looking to branch out into other platforms to ensure total domination of gamers' living rooms.

However, there is one interesting bit of information in this survey; unlike the 360's built-in Netflix streaming, though, this potential PS3 streaming requires a Netflix Instant Streaming Disc to work.

This would insinuate that Netflix support would not be built directly into the PS3's firmware like it is on 360, but rather supported through an outside application.

Considering the fact that the PS3 supported Hulu until just a week ago, however, it's always possible that this could change.
