188w ago - Update: PKGView BETA 2 Extractor is now available, which includes a few fixes as outlined HERE.

Today ifcaro has released PS3 PKGView BETA 1 and naehrwert has released UnPKG with source code, both are PlayStation 3 PKG file extractors / unpackers.

Download: PS3 PKGView BETA 1 Extractor / UnPKG with Source Code

To quote, roughly translated: PKGView is a file extraction tool to debug PS3 PKG files. This tool 100% legal it contains no code Sony.

PKGView has a graphical interface that simplifies the extraction of both individual files and the complete package.

Note: This version is very limited and only allows you to extract individual files, it can not remove folders or create PKG files.

Finally, UnPKG requires the VC++ Redistributable Package to run the exe file linked above. Props to emot...

PSN Package Auto-Renamer v1.00 for PlayStation 3 is Released

229w ago - Here is the first version 1.00 of my PSN Package Auto-Renamer for PlayStation 3.

If you download .PKG files from the Debug PlayStation Network Links or Retail PlayStation Network Links pages then it will simply rename them from the PSN hash to their proper ServiceID for collectors and developers.

Download: PSN Package Auto-Renamer v1.00 for PS3

It requires Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 installed to run it, and then just drag and drop PlayStation 3 package(s) file(s) into the software window to rename them correctly.

Example: Smash Cars PSN hash is:

DT1M4JasugeWR8qCUsyiNTpcx6bVyIyY5PxfjbKOOLorsuVf0nODWtrrXuidMBKLYK9kElpKtotbdCpVvr9oiYsa0
lu7cHcXFEkLS.pkg

After renaming to ServiceID it is:

UP9000-NPUA70069_00-ADHOCPARTY000000-A0100-V0100-PE.pkg

If you have any comments or bug reports post them below.

A Peek inside a PS3 PKG file!

550°
325w ago - Had a little time over the weekend to play with some PS3 .PKG files.

Here is a peek inside a PS3 Package file, see below!

For reference, some files like executables are still encrypted even when unpacked from a .PKG file, sound files are not. PSARC files are definitely compressed and likely encrypted as well.
