PS3 Firmware 3.0 Rumored Features Are Detailed

550°
251w ago - Although it is still some time away (Super_Secret predicts PS3 Firmware 3.0 won't be out during the summer, but before the holidays) the folks at VG247 (linked above) have uncovered some additional details on it.

To quote: The software upgrade has been described to us as "a huge overhaul", and was compared to NXE "in some respects".

The before-rumored reputation system will be included. We were told that, "A reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided for... game applications.

"There will be a new API available to so the user can... allow users and also obtain users' reputation."

A "grief reporting system" will be included in the update, allowing gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. Apparently this is going to be similar to the LBP system, and is likely to include a text input.

Firmware 3.0 will allow patches will be downloaded in the background, meaning you'll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix.

There's more. Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the...

PS3 Firmware 2.80 Update Changes Detailed

550°
251w ago - Despite Eric Lempel's statement about PS3 Firmware 2.80 only improving the playback quality of some PS3 format software, a few other changes have surfaced as well.

Both PS3Attitude (linked above) and GrandpaHomer have reported that the recently added Text Chat feature has now increased the maximum limit of characters from 32 to 64 per line.

It also has been reported that when using the official Sony Bluetooth Headset the microphone volume has been locked at level 3, without the ability to change it.

As mentioned yesterday, Open Remote Play (ORP) is currently not working properly in PS3 Firmware 2.80.

Since inception, the PS3 has prioritized devices plugged into the front of the console... meaning if you leave your Guitar Hero, Buzz, or Rock Band 'dongles' plugged in your Wireless controller is not number one. However, as of PS3 Firmware Update 2.80 the Wireless controller does gets assigned to number one.

253w ago - Today Pelfast Producer Jennifer Pourchot has detailed some new Comet Crash features on PlayStation Network.

To quote: We are pleased to announce that some exciting updates are now available in our first patch.

First, you will notice the new Video Record feature. You can now record gameplay videos to the hard drive or upload directly to your YouTube account. Comet Crash games can be incredibly unique, so I'm looking forward to seeing your videos.

In addition, we added country flags to the scoreboard. You'll have to beat your existing score to get a flag up there. Notice that scores with flags stand out amongst the others, so get them while they're hot!

There are a few other changes as well. You can read more details in the Comet Crash Online Manual.

50°
254w ago - Today Creat Studios Director of Communications Michael Robinson has detailed some fresh Cuboid Downloadable Content, including the Booster Pack as follows:

At long last, the Cuboid DLC will be released in the US and surrounding territories. Soon, PSN gamers in North and South America can be as cool as your counterparts in Europe! There are three great options to choose from that all you Cuboid fans should be aware of, so let's get to it, shall we?

First up is the Cuboid Booster Pack, which contains 33 new levels that will test even the best players' skills, rewarding you with new trophies. This pack will cost you just $2.99.

Option number two is the Cuboid Level Editor where you become the level designer and challenge others with your own custom levels. Players can either create a brand new level from scratch, or improve upon any existing level, created by other players or taken from the original campaigns.

User-created levels can be uploaded to PSN where they will be made available to other players (who have downloaded the free patch). Players can also earn trophies for creating their own levels, and for rating the levels created by others. The Cuboid Level Editor will cost $3.99.

And finally, for those of you who tend to be either indecisive, or just want...

Gran Turismo PlayStation Home Space Plus Features Detailed

250°
254w ago - Details have surfaced on a new PlayStation Home space for the long-awaited racer Gran Turismo 5.

Similar to EA's Sports Complex in Home, this space will offer a racing minigame and include a special interaction with Gran Turismo 5.

Apparently users will win Home items and accessories depending on how and with what you win races in the actual game.

To quote: Everyone loves EA's Sports Complex and the mini games, especially the mini racing game right? Well you're gonna love GT5 Home Space.

From what I hear the Home space is gonna have a similar feature as EA's mini race car game. A cool feature for any GT5 racing fan.

This Home space will also have some sort of connection with the game as far as whatever achievement you do in the game will have an effect in the Home space.

Lets say you purchase items in the game like a corvette or a viper, then you go into Home and you receive a statue of a corvette or a viper that you put in you Home apartment for decoration and the same thing in Home. You purchase a clothing article or something in Home and you receive something in the game.

This is cool and genius. Both GT5 game and Home Space will...
