EVE Online Update Wipes XP BOOT.INI

332w ago - Installed the latest EVE Online update earlier today? Don't reboot your computer! The update apparently has a "bug" which results in the deletion of your BOOT.INI startup file on XP systems. No big deal, aside from the fact Windows won't boot with this file missing.

CCP has removed the update as of 4 A.M. GMT today. However, if you are running XP and have downloaded and installed the update before said time, then your BOOT.INI is most likely long gone.

As for steps to remedy this problem, first check to make sure the BOOT.INI file exists:

If you are only using the Classic client or installed the Premium client using the full Premium installer than you are not affected.

If you upgraded from the Classic client to the Premium client, using the content upgrade, then please read on.

Check the root directory of your hard drive and see if you have a boot.ini file, if so then you are not affected. The file is normally hidden so you need to click Tools : Folder Options : View and select "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" to be able to see it.

You can also check for the presence of this file by clicking Start : Control Panel : System : Advanced : Startup and Recovery : Settings (third button down)....

Microsoft Warning About the Xbox 360 System Update

332w ago - Microsoft has issued a warning of an unfortunate problem that has been found with one of the features of the new dashboard update for the Xbox 360.

The update allows you to change the email account (Live ID) associated with your Xbox Live Gamertag, which is an incredibly welcome feature, and one that has been requested since the consoles launch.

Right now, however, if you go and change that email account you will in fact lose all of your forum posts, community user level, and icons earned at the forum. All posts made by your account will appear as 'anonymous'. The team at Microsoft are working hard to resolve this issue as soon as possible, and we'll let you know when this has been achieved.

Right now though, if you value your CUL, Icons, and Forum posts, do not change your Live ID. The fix should be here in a few days.

Operation: (Warhawk) Omega Dawn

333w ago - According to Dylan Jobe (Game Director, Warhawk): We've just finished development of our v1.2 patch and our first Booster Pack, Operation: Omega Dawn!... which is very different than "Red Dawn" or "Dawn of the Dead".

I'd like to give our blog readers a bit of info on our first downloadable content - and I'll try to keep in away from sounding to much like a sales-pitch filled with shallow marketing-speak. The team and I really wanted the Omega Dawn Booster pack to add a new gameplay experience and to enhance the replay value of the core Warhawk game. Not be some nickel-and-dime upgrade that takes advantage of our player community!!! (That's my own personal opinion on DLC so I'll get off my soapbox now)

So without further ado...

The Omega Dawn Booster pack adds 3 key things:

* A night-time battlefield with 6 layouts called the "Omega Factory". It's huge btw.
* New 7-player aircraft called the KT-424 Combat Dropship.
* And 5 updated bonus layouts for battlefields from the original game so that you can play using the new Dropship.

First let me ramble on about the new battlefield: Many of you all wanted a night time level so that's what we did. The battlefield takes place at night well... actually at early dawn. We wanted to...
