254w ago - As a follow-up to an article from a few weeks ago, Sony may have you believing that the company cut out PS2 backwards compatibility in order to save costs.
However, the real reason is actually more strategic than anything else. According to recent rumors, all PS3s will most likely be able to play PS2 games in the near future.
The PS2 is Sony Computer Entertainment's crowing achievement after the PSOne. Both consoles combined have sold close to 260 million units world wide. It does make it seem a bit silly when you see console fanboys bickering over the anthill sized 20 some million units for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The PS2 and PSOne has a combined library of over 8,000 games (PAL, NTSC) to date, yet the latest version of the PS3 cannot play any of the PS2 games. I was fortunate enough to get my 60GB PS3 during launch, which is considered by many to be the ultimate version. I consider it to be the MVP (Most Valued Player) of gaming consoles due to the fact I could fence it for a good bit of cash on Ebay.
The 80GB which came out after the 60GB, had a new piece of software...
254w ago - Earlier last month, Take-Two, publishers of Bioshock and Grand Theft Auto, announced that the PS3 had been their biggest source of income, with 35% of their revenue coming from the platform.
It seems this may becoming trend, as UbiSoft is reporting a similar story. So far for the fiscal year of 2008, 21% of the publisher's sales have come from the PS3.
Of the three home consoles, that is the largest percent, with Microsoft's XBox 360 trailing at 20% and the Wii at 15%. This is quite a mix up from the 2007 fiscal year, where the 360 actually had the highest amount of sales out of all platforms at 25%.
This may, in part, be to UbiSoft's PS3 exclusive Haze. Though the title was meet poorly critically, it performed reasonably commercially. However, UbiSoft also published Naruto: Broken Bond, a 360 exclusive, that has sold nearly 400,000 copies to date.
UbiSoft is expecting to meet their financial goals for the fiscal year of 2008, with Tom Clancy's...

255w ago - According to the latest Famitsu Issue, Tales of Vesperia will be coming to the PS3 with extra content.
To quote, roughly translated: Namco Bandai has released a PDF on its website in Japanese, among other things, a list of projects that the company intends to launch the Japanese market over the year 2008.
The big surprise we found in the Tales of Vesperia, a title that was announced so far as Xbox 360 exclusive, but according to this list will also come to PlayStation 3.
Probably is a similar kind of exclusivity to the Eternal Sonata, a title which despite having been announced yet reached the market.
The rest of the list includes Soul Calibur IV (PS3, 360), Afro Samurai (PS3, 360), Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 (PS2), a Dragon Ball DS, Super Robot Wars Z (PS2), Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit ( PS3, 360), Family Trainer (Wii), Taiko: Drum Master (Wii), a new release of the Tales of series... para DS, Naruto (PS3) y Gundam (PSP). DS, Naruto (PS3) and Gundam (PSP).
Portable games are still entitled to be determined, it will have to wait for further announcements to know what we will be preparing Namco Bandai for the coming months.
