PS3 Firmware 2.20 brings BD-Live Interactive Blu-ray this month!

335w ago - According to the bods over at Engadget, the Blu-ray 2.0 spec (or BD-Live) is just days from launch. Sony just announced that the next PlayStation 3 Firmware updated -- v2.20 -- will add the new interactive features to your PS3.

As such, PS3 owners should expect downloadable video content, ringtones, interactive movie-based games, and the always intriguing "more" when the software is released in "late March." In other words, in the next 11 days. The update will also allow you to copy photos and music playlists over USB from your PS3 to your PSP. The rest of the new features after the break.

-- "Resume play" will enable PS3 system to start playing a Blu-ray disc
and DVD at the point it was stopped, even if the disc had been
removed.(*1)
-- "Audio Output Device" will be a new Remote Play setting, enabling PSP
to serve as a remote control for music played through PS3.
-- PS3 system's Internet browser will be enhanced: Video files directly
linked from a Web page will be able to be streamed, and the browser's
view speed will be improved.
-- DivX and WMV format videos that are larger than 2GB will be playable.
-- "Mosquito Noise Reduction" will be added as an AV setting in the
control panel of the DVD/BD player for improved movie playback.(*2)
 

PSP Firmware 3.93 Update Available Now!

335w ago - Update: According to zefie (and the PSP Updater), there is now a second/alternate 3.93 Firmware revision available HERE which appears to be either a quick fix or a new update format, size, and CRC ?

PSP Firmware 3.93 is now available for download via Network Update. As expected, the update is relatively minor, offering enhanced support for PlayStation Network titles as detailed in the Firmware changelog:

- Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.

Not mentioned in the official changelog, it appears there are 20 new Internet radio players that have been added to the PSP's Internet Radio feature.

PS3 Firmware Update 2.17 released!

336w ago - Update: Per Jeff Rubenstein (Social Media Manager, PlayStation Blog): In case you were wondering what it's all about, the operating stability of some online PS3 titles has been improved. Hope that clears things up!

It's now official- Sony has indeed skipped a retail release of PS3 Firmware 2.15 (Debug) in lieu of PS3 Firmware Update 2.17 which is out now via Network Update or below!

There isn't an official changelog available yet, but it appears to be primarily a bugfix update at this time.

Also, for what it's worth a little birdie told us Sony Devs already have 2.20 so perhaps another quick update will follow soon? :P
 

Tekken: Dark Resurrection Getting Free Update

336w ago - Bandai Namco Games announced today a free update adds new modes and gameplay fixes for the Japanese version of Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online. It includes Dual Shock 3 rumble support and a Pickup Match Mode.

Japanese owners will get the update when they start up the game on March 18th at 1pm, there are no details of an international version yet, but is expected around the same time.

Here's a list of major changes:

* Pickup Match Mode: a mode where you continually face off in one-on-one matches without having to got through a matching room. You can set conditions to search for an opponent, then battle the same opponent repeatedly, or have the computer search for new opponents following each match.

* Dual Shock 3 rumble support

* You can now create and display names for rooms

* Adjustments to allotment of points when winning and losing battles

* "Flag" option added to room creation and searching, allowing you to create and search for rooms that have been flagged with specific conditions

* Players who are waiting for their turn to fight will be alerted via sound effects and rumble when the time has come.

* When Rank Match has been set to off, your win/loss is no longer recorded and you do not earn battle points.
