Videos: PSOne Emulator PSX4iPhone Running on iPhone 3GS

100°
287w ago - Today ZodTTD has shared a few preview videos of the PSOne emulator PSX4iPhone running on an iPhone 3GS. Also below is an earlier video of the GBA emulator gpSPhone running on the iPhone 3GS.

To quote: For those who have an iPhone 3GS, you're probably aware of how much faster this model runs over all previous Apple handheld devices. This is evident in my YouTube video posted in my previous newsbit of gpSPhone running on the 3GS.

I now have psx4iphone running very speedy on the 3GS. It's at the point where Final Fantasy 7 is fullspeed at very least without sound. The build is rough around the edges, as you can't switch games without restarting the emulator, and only memory card saves are currently working, no save states just yet. Both these issues are being worked on.

So how would you like to run psx4iphone on your 3GS right now, even without a jailbreak? Well you can! I can make a build for a limited number of people.

In order to run this build you will need a tool like DiskAid for PC & Mac to place games & bios, that you must supply yourself, in a publicly writable directory. It's simple drag & drop.

Still...

Everyone who played it on the show floor seemed to enjoy it, and we're stoked to show off more of Critter Crunch in the near future, with Nathan promising to bring it back to the Blog very soon.

Rumor: Crime Lords Running Empires from Jail via PlayStations?

400°
293w ago - A row has reportedly erupted between the Prison Service and the agency fighting organised crime as it is believed that jailed crime lords are using PlayStations to give out orders in the real world.

Apparently, they are using the interactivity of the system to continue their underworld business activities.

To quote: "There is other technology used – people are using PlayStations to charge their mobile phones and are playing games interactively with others, so are able to communicate with them.

"The Prison Service is concerned that prisoners are using interactive games to talk to people outside the prison. Communication is the name of the game and criminals are looking to exploit new technologies.

Prisoners have rights and they have access to the Internet. Some new prison guards are also being used without knowing it, but they soon become streetwise."

The remarks provoked a furious response from the Prison Service which issued a statement in which it sought to demolish them.

Video: Critter Crunch Trailer for PlayStation 3 Available

293w ago - Today Capy's Creative Director Kris Piotrowski shared a Critter Crunch PS3 trailer via Sony's PlayStation Blog.

To quote: This is Kris. I'm the creative director at [Register or Login to view links], which means I'm by-far the coolest guy at the studio. And Capy is pretty cool, so that's not just talk.

Anyway, who is Capy, right? Well, Capy is an indie studio from the sometimes frozen, other times disgustingly humid Canadian wonderland known as Toronto.

So, um, check this trailer... but only if you're down with technicolor barf!

Boing! That was me announcing Critter Crunch for PlayStation Network!

Everyone at Capy has been working super-hard creating this crazy little arcade-puzzler (and filling it with humongous doses of love) so we're very excited to finally announce its existence. Critter Crunch is fueled by an original and award-winning "food chain" puzzle mechanic, which is all about feeding critters into each other until they burst. It's exactly as cute as it is horrible and sad, just like nature itself!

The game features a bunch of single player modes like adventure & puzzle, as well as online and local multiplayer in versus & co-op flavors, with a plethora of fancy...

Final Fantasy XIII Runs in 1080p on the PlayStation 3 Console

250°
295w ago - Those who have their hands on the Final Fantasy XIII demo, which came bundled with the special edition Advent Children Complete, have been reporting an interesting aspect of the game.

For those who missed it, Final Fantasy XIII runs in 1080p as was also mentioned previously.

Most current generation games run in 720p, and if you have a PS3 hooked up to a 1080p TV, then in the settings you can check off all the resolutions so that the PS3 auto detects what the game wants to be output as.

If all the check boxes are selected, then a game like Uncharted will run at its native resolution of 720p, while a game like Super Stardust HD will run at 1080p.

Now that most of the technical jargon has been explained, here is what is interesting about the FF XIII demo. The PS3 chooses to run the demo at 1080p, which means that the supported resolutions for FF XIII are 480p/720p/1080i/1080p.

Having said this, just because the game supports a 1080p resolution, does not mean that it is running at a native 1080p, but rather an upscaled 720p. Metal...
