PSP Custom Firmware 5.03 and 5.50 Prometheus Released

231w ago - Today liquidzigong of the Chinese board A9VG.com (linked above) has released PSP Custom Firmware 5.03 and 5.50 Prometheus, which enables recently released PSP Firmware 6.20 games such as Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep to run without patching required.

For those who missed it, an updated PRXDecrypter and PSPCipher by hrimfaxi reportedly allows the same, and the latest PSARDump by coyotebean also now supports Sony's PSPgo console.

Rumor: PS3 Firmware 3.40 Released to Devs, Coming Soon?

236w ago - Today TheSixthAxis.com (linked above) reports that they received confirmation that PS3 Firmware 3.40 has been released to PlayStation 3 developers, and that this may be a sign the update is coming soon for users as well.

It's been just about a month since PS3 Firmware 3.30 was released, and this rumor may lend credence to the recently rumored PS3 XMB Redesign if it turns out to be legitimate.

To quote: "We're told System Software version 3.40 was released to developers late last week, and although parity between dev and retail firmware updates isn't always guaranteed (or indeed timely) recently they've been pretty close, with, our sources say, just a few weeks between testing and public release.

Update: we've been told that the update has vanished."
 

PSN Exclusive: Kick-Ass: The Game to be Released April 29, 2010

240w ago - From a comic book by Mark Millar to a full feature film and now its very own game: Kick-Ass the game hits the PlayStation Network and Apple's iPhone on April 29, 2010 for $14.99.

Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl and Big Daddy will be playable characters. The game is also set to feature Facebook missions and integration.

To quote: "We are excited to provide players a closer look at the gameplay and characters involved in Kick-Ass," said Howard Horowitz, Founder and CEO of WHA Entertainment, Inc.

"Kick-Ass is set to deliver non-stop superhero action to gamers, and what could be more fun than getting to play as one of the three super heroes based on the super characters featured in the movie?"

Finally, Kick-Ass the movie hits theaters on Friday.




 

Video: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Nintendo Wii Trailer is Released

243w ago - Earlier today we saw a fresh Metroid: Other M video, and now Nintendo has made available a new Super Mario Galaxy 2 Wii trailer.

The video comes courtesy of cortjezter via YouTube, and is meant to coincide with a recent play session at Nintendo's office, which reveals footage of the new Rock Mario power-up, a "Light Yoshi" power-up, and some new levels.

Gameplay will be similar to the first Super Mario Galaxy, with a focus on platforming based on and around 3D planets with varying sizes and landscapes. The protagonist Mario will be able to ride the bipedal dinosaur Yoshi, who can use his tongue to swing across gaps, as well as eat different fruits that give him different powers, such as speed boosts, the ability to inflate like a balloon, or reveal secret paths.

While the player retains the ability to collect Star Bits with the blue Star Pointer from the first game, the Star Pointer is replaced by a red dot when riding Yoshi, which allows the player to aim and control his tongue. This can be used for swinging off objects, pulling levers or, like in previous games, swallowing enemies and spitting them out.
