MGS4 Playable at TGS

371w ago - On the KP Report podcast today, Kojima Productions Assistant Producer Ryan Payton (along with our very own Mark MacDonald) revealed Metal Gear Solid 4 will be playable at the Tokyo Games Show, which opens its doors next Thursday. It's the first time a playable version of the game, which was originally announced back in 2005, will be shown to the public.

Payton also talked about both the positive and negative feedback from the live gameplay demo at the Metal Gear Anniversary Party last July, including concerns about the demo being heavily scripted, the graphics and animation, and the first-person view. Check out the podcast for the full details, and expect hands-on reports from 1UP when TGS starts next week.

PSN deals Poker, PixelJunk

371w ago - Sony has updated the PlayStation Network with an impressive five demos this week. If that weren't enough, two new downloadable games are also now available, as well as a host of game trailers, videos, and wallpaper packs.

Announced in May, Sonly Online Entertainment's High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition deals out five types of poker on the PSN. The game features Texas hold'em, super hold'em, billabong, Tahoe, and Shanghai, and players can practice their bluffing solo or test their mettle online against five others. It will sell for $9.99. The demo is joined by a trailer for the game and a wallpaper pack.

Also added to the PSN this week is Q-Games' PixelJunk Racers. Players will be able to zip around 10 different tracks in micro-sized racer cars seen from a top-down perspective. Variety being the spice of life, the game will offer 32 different modes. The game is available for $6.99. For PS3 owners looking to be judicious with their monies, Sony has included a trial version of PixelJunk Racers and a wallpaper theme with this week's update.

Four other demos join PixelJunk Racers' this week. EA is giving sports fans cause to wave their PS3 pendants, as free trials of NHL 08 and FIFA 08 are now available. Though the PS3 version of EA's Skate is still a few weeks off, Activision has performed...

PS3 not getting Call of Duty 4 collector edition

371w ago - Activision on Tuesday announced that a special collector's edition of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be released for Xbox 360 and PC, but not PS3.

For $10 above the manufacturer's suggested retail price ($69 on Xbox 360, $59 on PC), Activison will bundle a Call of Duty 4 artwork book.

The Xbox 360 Collector's Edition includes a bonus DVD content such as the "making of" video, a war documentary, level walk-throughs, and campaign trailers. The PC Collector's Edition ships with a strategy guide in lieu of the bonus DVD.

Special edition games are seen as a way for game publishers to squeeze an incremental amount of additional money from willing gamers.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare launches for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 5.
