Orange Box PS3 Delay Not Due to PS3

50°
366w ago - Word hit yesterday that the PS3 version of Half-Life 2: The Orange Box would be delayed a few weeks past its 360 and PC kin. It's the latest PS3 version of a multi-platform game to stagger behind the other SKUs, but today Valve is assuring it had nothing to do with difficulties developing on the PS3 hardware.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Valve director of marketing Doug Lombardi said the reason is simply geographical; the EA UK team handling PS3 development across the pond is running a little behind the core Valve team. "We weren't going to hold up PC and 360 for PS3," said Lombardi. Furthermore, Valve says all three versions will be identical in terms of performance and content.

Considering the delay will only be a few weeks, Valve's explanation isn't surprising - any substantial PS3 development problems would more likely have delayed it by months. So just sit tight, PS3-owning Half Life fans. The wait to play Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2 won't be too much longer.

Square Enix Says FFVII Remake Could Still Happen

50°
366w ago - Fans of Square Enix's Final Fantasy series have been pining for a remake of the classic Final Fantasy VII since before the game's E3 2005 tech demo. And so far, Square brass has been fairly quiet on the idea of it becoming a reality.

Though, as Famitsu points out (via PlayStation Universe), they are very aware of consumer interest. Crisis Core producer Hideki Imaizumi said in an interview to the Japanese magazine that though fans clearly want it, it's a question of timing. The three most likely to work on such a project -- Kitase, Nomura and Tabata -- are too busy with Final Fantasy XIII.

Imaizumi did make clear there's no current plans for a remake, but pointed out some decisions are made quickly. He added that a new game is to be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, taking place from September 20-23.

No doubt this new game is another part of Square Enix's masterful plan to keep developers too busy to re-render Cloud's ridiculous sword.

Morello officially Parade-s GHIII

50°
366w ago - Earlier this week, Rage Against the Machine fretter and renegade of funk Tom Morello told Rolling Stone that he would be joining Guns N' Roses' Slash and Poison's Bret Michaels as a boss in Activision and RedOctane's Guitar Hero III. All well and good, but Morello's inclusion presented the obvious query of which Rage song would get worked into the Neversoft-developed rhythm game.

Today, Activision officially announced Morello's inclusion in GHIII, and also revealed that gamers can expect to engage Morello in rhythmic fisticuffs to the tune of "Bulls on Parade." Ranked as the 15th greatest metal song of all time by VH1, "Bulls on Parade" features Morello's signature synthetic guitar sounds. Adding a wrinkle to the gameplay, Activision notes that players will be required to "emulate some of Morello's extremely innovative guitar-playing antics." Guitar Hero III is rated T for Teen and will be available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Wii on October 28.

FIFA 08 brings out Beckham

50°
366w ago - Look at David Beckham showing off his rippling clothes and acutely replicated facial detail afforded by the power of PS3 and Xbox 360 in FIFA 08.

It all looks very nice, doesn't it? Even if the shots don't look like they were taken from the in-game engine, but you get the idea.

FIFA 08 isn't all about visuals this time round, because as well as a host of new options and refreshed gameplay physics, EA recently confirmed that it's slapping 10-player online play into this beauty as well. Get in.

Sega's Club slips to '08

50°
366w ago - Sega has sent out a new release schedule with a little bit of bad news that those looking forward to the upcoming release of The Club will have to wait until next year.

Tagged to the foot of Sega's most recent release schedule is: "Please note that The Club from Bizarre Creations is now to release on X360, PS3 and PC in early 2008."

We can't help but wonder if finishing up work on PGR4 for Microsoft may have demanded a little more attention than was originally though...

You can take a look at our most recent preview of The Club here
