Source: Sony unveiling cheaper 40GB PS3 this week

360w ago - A new report confirms earlier rumors that Sony will announce a $399 40GB PS3 as early as this week. According to Sky News, a manufacturing source has revealed that Taiwanese FoxConn (which also produces PS2s) will make the rumored $399 PS3. An announcement could come sometime this week in an effort to "spoil" the high profile launch of Halo 3 for Xbox 360 says Sky.

Previous reports speculated that Sony would drop the price of the 80GB PS3 to match the current price ($499) of the now discontinued 60GB PS3. In order to offer a $399 PS3, Sky News reports that Sony will either remove the console's USB ports or backwards compatibility.

Sony denied comment on the report when contacted by GamePro.

EA ventures into Dead Space

360w ago - Electronic Arts has announced that its Redwood Shores development studio is working on new IP for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360--and this time, it's moving into the sci-fi horror genre. Expected to ship in the third quarter of 2008, Dead Space is a third-person survival horror game set in deep space. EA's announcement promises that the game will "deliver the ultimate in psychological thrills and gruesome action."

Players will control Isaac Clark, an engineer who sets off on what is supposed to be a routine mission to do repairs onboard a mining ship in deep space. Perhaps not unexpectedly, the trip turns out to be anything but routine when he discovers that an alien infestation has killed off the ship's crew, and he is left to fight for his life within the silence and darkness of deep space.

Executive producer Glen Schofield commented, "We are all such huge fans of the horror and sci-fi genres; we wanted to create the most terrifying game we could and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time."

Dead Space is being developed by EA's team at its Redwood City headquarters. The development team has previously worked on franchises, such as The Sims, The Godfather, and The Simpsons Game.

Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of September 24th

361w ago - Whoosh! That's the sound of games literally flying off the production lines and onto shelves. Today's release list is possibly the best yet. Remember when we were having weeks like these? Thank goodness those are over. Here's the full release list:

US Games
World Series of Poker 2008

EU Games
Stuntman: Ignition
SEGA Rally

Asian Games
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

This week at least one high profile game being released in each territory. We're intrigued to see how Oblivion and Warhawk will do over there here in Japan. All of these games are subject to the constant change in whim of the Game Fates, so don't start moaning if any last-minute delays occur. It's not our fault.

If you see something on that list that you like the look of, but it's not in your region, then don't fret. Simply import the game and play it on your region free PS3. Simple. Which titles will you be picking up?

Virtua Fighter 5 Ad Shows Console Differences

361w ago - A new magazine ad for Virtua Fighter 5 makes the differences between the two versions of the game (PS3 and Xbox360) very clear, stating that the Xbox360 version is "NOW ONLINE", but the PS3 version "Does Not Include Online Play." This promotes purchase on one console only...interesting advertising.
