- A new report published Friday by the Mercury News suggests that Sony may already be scrambling to keep third-party developers aboard the PlayStation 3, which has struggled to keep pace with the Wii and Xbox 360.
"One piece of news that came out this week was that Sony pleaded with third-party developers not to abandon its struggling [PS3] platform," wrote Dean Takahashi of the San Jose Mercury News.
"That change in attitude is a marked difference compared to the arrogance of past years," the game journalist added. "The argument is that the PS3 will show its strength as developers learn how to make games for it."
Takahashi cited "insider information" when contacted by GamePro for source clarification.
In August, Sony admitted in a report by GamePro that the PS3 can be more difficult to develop for given its propriety and complex Cell processor. Subsequently, several PS3 ports get released several weeks, if not months after an Xbox 360 counterpart. Often times the PS3 version receives significantly lower review scores than Xbox 360 versions.
Assuming Takahashi is right, it's easy to see how developers could be frustrated with the PS3 thus far. It hasn't sold well, which makes it difficult to sell games on. And development requires more money (for now at least) given...
- The nice guys over at [Register or Login to view links]
have shared with us the following info on their new [Register or Login to view links]
is a device for people who can easily set up the screen on their TV. Some people may have 2 or more TVs at home: when they want to move the PS3 to play on another TV, they may find it has no picture on another TV.
It is because the output resolution is different on each TV so they can't get the picture, and they have to set the PS3 back to original setting on their current TV before moving to another TV.
Apart from that setting the output of PS3 is so complicated.. almost takes half an hour to do so. The E-Setter is a device for you to set up the output resolution easily, people just need to switch a button and get their set up within a few seconds only.
In related news, today GunPR
has shared MegaBox PS3 WIP
. It can be installed via Petitboot Bootloader (OS Selector) For PS3, but remember it's only a WIP thus far and lacks HDMI output.
More to come on this soon, and some concept pics are below!
- As posted on PS3NFO.com
, today release group SUSHi
released Folklore (EUR) for PS3 (NFO File
). According to their release notes, it appears even some release groups feel a PS3 iSO Loader (or better yet, PS3 homebrew) is long overdue to quote:
Isnt it time for a loader ? ;-)
Aside from stepping stones in recent months (the RSX progress, another Warhawk hole found, BRD drive FW dumped and partially decrypted- pics coming!, PS2 BiOS Dumper for PS3- dumps to internal PS2 Memory Card, then copy it to USB Flash Stick via XMB to examine how the 'PS2 Mode' is handled, etc.) not much progress has been acheived in getting unsigned code running on a retail PS3 unit unfortunately.
It's starting to look like the real GODS may be SPA versus PDX, not because they were actually the first to make a PS3 loader.. but because to date they have still managed to keep any leaks from reaching the public's hands.
- Japanese website Impress Watch (linked above) has posted up a decent amount of new screenshots of the new Gran Turismo game, which is of course heading exclusively
to the PS3. Enjoy!
- A while ago we were all wondering what the sphere shaped logo featuring the buttons of the PS controller was all about... well know we know for sure, it is the logo for the Playstation Network as a recent advertisement indicates.
