Sony Unveils The Surprising Origins of Gravity Rush for PS Vita

200°
109w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has unveiled the surprising origins of Gravity Rush for PS Vita to fans below today.

To quote: Based on the sheer number of questions we get about Gravity Rush, it's clearly one of the most-anticipated PS Vita games coming along in the next few months.

Featuring stunning, cel-shaded visuals, Vita-tailored controls, and gravity-based gameplay, it's no wonder that reviewers across the Pacific have awarded the game (known as "Gravity Daze" in Japan) high marks.

So when the game's creators dropped into San Francisco last week for Game Developers Conference, I jumped at the chance to speak with them.

In this conversation (shared with IGN's Ryan Clements - look for his story soon at Vita.IGN.com), Game Director Keiichiro Toyama and Art Director Yoshiaki Yamaguchi talk about the game's original platform (not PS Vita!), why they avoided an overly Japanese aesthetic, and the surprising inspiration for its unique gravity-based gameplay.

Ryan Clements, IGN: How did you get started on the project? What are your roots in the industry?

Keiichiro Toyama, Japan Studio: I was studying art as a student. I joined Konami as a graphic artist and become director on Silent Hill, and...

Sony European PSN Game Store Updates for March 14, 2012

200°
109w ago - Sony's Jawad Ashraf of the PS Store Team is here with this weeks European PSN Game Store updates today, as follows:

Get ready for a unique experience in this week's release of Journey.

Enjoy stunning visuals, haunting music and unique online gameplay as you soar above the ruins and glide across sands to discover the secrets of a forgotten civilization. Will you travel alone, or will you go with a stranger you meet along the way?

If you don't feel like taking a journey like that, then what about one as a little alien who needs to escape an underwater research facility? Warp has you play as Zero, an orange alien who must rely on his special abilities to make his great escape.

Jihl Nabaat also joins the coliseum challenges in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Perhaps you'll get lucky enough to get her crystal on the first attempt. Or 15th...

Of course, we also have another piece of Uncharted 3 content to throw in the ring. This week is the Co-Op Survival Mode content, where you and two other friends work together (I hope!) to take on wave after wave of enemies, with each wave getting progressively harder. Show them what you've got!

This week we also have some more titles on sale. ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, the Sly trilogy and more!

Sony on 5 Reasons Shoot Many Robots is Better with Friends

100°
110w ago - Today Lead Designer Josh Glavine has shared 5 reasons Shoot Many Robots is better with friends via Sony's PlayStation Blog.

To quote: Available tomorrow on PSN, Shoot Many Robots is an action game with a twist:

You can play with up to four people cooperatively online. If you don't already have an excuse to make three friends and kill some robots, we've provided five:

It's a simple formula. As you add more players to Shoot Many Robots, you'll encounter more robots, more explosions, and more chaos. Playing with co-op partners increases the number of robots in each level which means more things to kill... and more ways to kill them.

And more dead robots means more Nut pickups, which enable you to buy new guns and gear. All of the randomly dropping items like powerups and loot also drop more frequently. In co-op, everything is just more fun.

Co-opetition

At the end of each mission, the players with the highest kill counts are rewarded with more Nuts. This means you must work cooperatively to complete a mission, while also competing for the most kills - hence, "co-opetition."

Pick-Me-Ups

In co-op, you can revive your partners if they are downed. Having squadmates...
