Sony to Offer HBO Shows on PS3 via PlayStation Network

100°
217w ago - Today [Register or Login to view links] reports that Sony and Time Warner have struck a deal allowing HBO Originals to be available for download on the PlayStation Network video store, however, the content will not be from seasons that are currently airing.

The reason for the time lag between the show airing and it going up for download is, to quote, "because it won't incentivize cable and satellite subscribers to drop their TV service."

Additionally, [Register or Login to view links] has received confirmation from Sony stating that unfortunately HBO content is not coming to PAL territories.

They also will be raising the price $2 for these episodes, to quote:

"...their agreement will allow PS3 users to pay a premium price to download episodes from 11 HBO series, like "Big Love," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Entourage," as they become available for sale in the DVD format roughly 11 months after premiering on the network.

...an episode of the HBO series "True Blood" will be available for download through the PS3 for $2.99, while episodes from most TV dramas on the PlayStation are priced at 99 cents per episode."

To quote: Our friends in [Register or Login to view links] recently held an event where journalists went hands-on with Killzone 3... in 3D. SCEE's [Register or Login to view links] was there, and he's got what you want to know: details.

Earlier this month I made my first trip to Amsterdam and while I didn't get chance to visit the Van Gogh Museum, I did get a different sensory treat: I got to play Killzone 3 in 3D.

The select group of journalists invited had little idea of what to expect as they climbed the stairs to a private cinema in Amsterdam's Melkweg, but soon Hermen Hulst, Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, took to the podium and revealed all.

Killzone 3 picks up where its predecessor left off and it's a much...

Sony's PlayStation 2 Gaming Console Sells One Million in 2010

300°
218w ago - A few days back we reported on both PS3 and PSP sales data, and today Sony has revealed that it has sold one million PS2 gaming consoles in 2010 thus far.

In addition to being crowned as the best selling gaming console of all time, it appears as though the PlayStation 2 still have some life left in it indeed.

The PlayStation 2 has officially broke into its first 1,000,000 units for 2010!

To quote: "This feat was accomplished weeks before we reached the halfway point in the year, meaning the PS2 has potential to sell around 3,000,000 to 3,500,000 units by the end of the year due to the holiday season.

Analysts have predicted that the PS2 will soon reach a ground-breaking 150,000,000 total units.

This is just under 50,000,000 more units than its predecessor, the PlayStation (PSOne) and a goal that Kaz Hirai (President & CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment) set for the PlayStation 3 a few years ago."

Video: Sony Previews FirstPlay Episode 7 for PlayStation 3

50°
218w ago - Today Sony's Associate Editor Nathan Ditum has shared a video preview of FirstPlay Episode 7, which arrives on PlayStation Network tomorrow.

To quote: Nathan Ditum here, back to tell you about this week's episode of FirstPlay, which will be on the Store this Wednesday.

It's a packed episode this week. First we have a preview of Rockstar's cold-eyed six-shoot 'em up, Red Dead Redemption.

We're putting together a very special review of the game for a future episode right now, and having played it for several hours already I can say it's looking absolutely fantastic. It's epic, atmospheric, and I shot a lot of animals.

We've also got reviews of [Register or Login to view links] big-hitting UFC 2010 Undisputed, and shin-shattering boarder sequel Skate 3.

That's alongside our usual batch of network highlights - this week including the best PSN shooters, a round-up of the comics store and a count-down of your best Just Cause 2 destruction videos - and our screenshot galleries, this week featuring Test Drive Unlimited 2.

That's all for our regular, cheaper-than-100-one-penny-sweets price of 99p, or just £8.99 for a 90 day subscription. A bargain - especially since,...
