155w ago - Today Jawad Ashraf of the PlayStation Store Team has posted up this weeks European PSN Game Store updates, as follows:

Hello and welcome to a new week of updates to the PlayStation Store!

On this fine winter's week (maybe not for all of you!) we bring to you a smattering of more gaming goodness. Shank 2 comes to the store courtesy of EA. Returning with its comic book aesthetics and side-scrolling brawler gameplay, Shank is back! In fact, IGN have reported it as "One of the best action games in recent memory"!

Malicious also sees an English release on the store. Take control of the Spirit Vessel and battle waves of brutal fighters and colossal enemies to rid the world of the evil force of Malicious. Gain new weapons, build your powers and perform devastating combo attacks as the final showdown between good and evil draws near. PS Plus members will benefit from a 20% reduced cost.

The Simpsons Arcade Game sees release on the store today, too. We know you guys were expecting to see this last week and apologise for the inconvenience however, now you can enjoy it in all its glory. As was also announced, Plus members will receive this as part of this month's membership. Enjoy!

We also have Mortal Kombat (2011), Top Spin 4 and Mafia II all heading to the digital...

Sony Announces The Simpsons: Arcade Game Hits PSN Tomorrow

155w ago - Today Sony Assistant Producer Charles Hefele has announced that The Simpsons: Arcade Game will be hitting PSN tomorrow.

To quote: Speaking as a lifelong [Register or Login to view links] fan, I'm just as excited for this game to come out as everyone else – the wait to finally see this game make its way to home consoles seemed endless!

We worked closely with Gracie Films and Fox to time the release of the game with the 500th episode of The Simpsons so that fans of the show could experience the classic game during an important milestone for the series.

It's been a great collaborative effort with [Register or Login to view links] to find a balance between preserving the authenticity of the original arcade game and making just enough tweaks to adapt it for PS3.

The original game is already great, so we decided we would focus primarily on making it as faithful a port as possible while adding various gameplay modes and bonus content.

We also listened to fans' suggestions from our previous arcade conversions, particularly in respect including more challenging ways to play these classic arcade games when you remove the quarter-crunching element. To that end, we've included several different gameplay modes in The Simpsons Arcade, so...

PS3 RSOD - Red Screen of Death Fix is Now Available

1250°
156w ago - Today PlayStation 3 homebrew developers RobS and An0nym0us have made available a PS3 RSOD (Red Screen of Death) fix for those experiencing the issue on Sony's current-gen entertainment system and gaming console.

Download: [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links] (Mirror) / [Register or Login to view links]

Below are further details via PS3 Dev Wiki: RSOD Fix

The RSOD Fix - Observations about RSOD:

Seems to appear mostly on consoles with Samsung NORS (CECHLxx-CECH20xx) May be caused by an error being thrown while writing to NOR (this is theory) Mostly caused by a corrupt area of flash called VTRM

The original RSOD "fix" was actually a CFW patch to bypass the RSOD. basic_plugins.sprx was modified to ignore the error condition to allow the console to boot. While this worked, certain things like trophies still didn't work correctly.

The actual RSOD fix occurs by the VTRM area on flash being rewritten. The ability to do this is already built into the firmware, it just needs to be called.
