    Creating your own PS3 Themes!

    50°
371w ago - Good news for designers, you can create your own XMB theme. SCEJ released a program to do that.

Step 1: You will need to download the official PS3 Theme Tool from Sony's Japanese Web site.

Step 2: Extract the file to a folder on your computer.

Step 3: Open command prompt and navigate to the folder.

Step 4: The folder should contain a sample folder, a GrimConv folder, a p3tcompiler.exe and other assorted files. To create your theme you will need to run the p3tcompiler.exe passing in the sample.xml.

Example: If you are in the p3tcompiler_v101 folder, you run: p3tcompiler .sample1sample.xml

Step 5: This creates a number of .gim files and a sample.p3t files in the sample /01/ directory. Take the sample.p3t file and transfer it to a memory stick in the following location: PS3->THEME

Step 6: Plug the memory stick into your PS3 and select the theme setting, where you will be given an option to install; do so, and you will have your sample theme.

Step 7: To construct your own custom theme, it's a case of editing all of the .png files in the sample directory, and re-run all of the above.

Hirai talks PS3 price drops, backwards compatibility, and more!

    50°
371w ago - Speaking to Famitsu, Playstation supremo Kaz Hirai discussed a variety of juicy PS3 issues including further price drops, the lack of backwards compatibility in newer models and Monster Hunter's move to the Wii. Hirai commented that as far as pricing goes, the more games thare are and the higher the amount of PS3 units shipped, the more they are able to lower the price.

He also noted that there were many discussions about backwards compatibility although it was removed as the top riority is for owners to play Blu-ray games and have access to downloadable content. Moving onto the loss of Monster Hunter 3 to the Wii, Hirai stated that he hopes Sony can continue partnership with Capcom in this capacity.

To quote: The PS2 has had several price drops, can we see similar trends with the PS3?

Hirai: When there are more games on the console and the unit itself has also shipped a fair number, one trend is that we are able to reduce the costs. When games of different genres have been released, some of these will appeal to the masses and this is when we have to consider a pricing which would appeal to these types of audiences. This is a common trend so the PS3 doesn't need to go against such trends. By keeping the 20GB and 60GB, we are leaving as many options as possible for the consumers to choose...
