Silent Hill V gameplay shots materialize

50°
355w ago - We love to be unsettled by Silent Hill's nerve-jangling survival action, and this first proper batch of in-game shots prove Konami's horror formula still works on next-gen hardware, with our first view of extra-boobified nursebeasts and the new Schism monster.

If you're after info, why not check our data-burst from last week? Then you can hit the gallery and shudder in full understanding of the diabolically dire situation Silent Hill V will thrust you into. We can already feel the fear building...

$39.99 Warhawk Disc Without Headset Coming

50°
355w ago - A Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson has confirmed to Level Up that sometime later this month, retailers will begin selling a $39.99 SKU of Warhawk that does not include the Bluetooth headset. When the game went on sale in August, two versions were available: a download-only version sold through the Playstation Network for $39.99, and Blu-Ray disc version with a Jabra Bluetooth headset packed in, for $59.99. With this price reduction, the retail and digitally distributed versions of Warhawk now sell for the same price.

We first got wind of a possible stripped down retail SKU for Warhawk on Friday, when, in the course of reporting a separate story, we came across a listing for "Warhawk--Game Only" on GameStop's Web site. The listing says that the $39.99 version will be available on October 10th, but the Sony rep had not been able to confirm that with SCEA's sales department by press time. When asked whether this was indicative of Sony's strategy for future AAA games that are jointly released on PSN and Blu-Ray--i.e. an initial run with a pack-in for $59.99, followed by a standalone Blu-Ray version for $39.99--the rep only said that Sony had no new announcements to make at this time.

We predict that games like SOCOM: Confrontation, where communication is essential, will ship with and without headsets....

Conflict: Denied Ops First Look

50°
355w ago - During a recent meeting with Eidos we were afforded our first look at Conflict: Denied Ops, a first-person shooter currently in development at Pivotal Games. We weren't permitted to play the game on this occasion, but we were invited to watch an Eidos representative play through the first level, titled Santa Cecilia Monastery.

Conflict Denied: Ops takes place in and around Venezuela, where, in the game's version of events, the government has been overthrown by a corrupt regime and a civil war is raging. Team America offers to intervene, the regime objects and threatens nuclear-flavored reprisals, and so the US intervention is carried out in secret by two members of the CIA's "special activities" division. That's where you come in. You'll be playing as two undercover soldiers--a sniper and a machine gun specialist--whom you can switch between at any time during solo play, or whom are tailor made for cooperative play with a friend.

During our explosive tour of the war-torn monastery, it became clear that one of the most important strategies in Conflict: Denied Ops will be to have one character providing cover fire and attracting enemies' attention while the other flanks them. The game has purportedly been designed with accessibility in mind, and will feature a control scheme that should be easy for newcomers...
