Top Gear on GT5

50°
360w ago - Our inbox will be relieved at least. Not a day goes by without somebody firing us a note saying either they - or their amazing old Capri - can lap the TG test track faster than Stig. Next year, on Playstation 3, you'll be able to find out.

Top Gear has hooked up with Sony to make our iconic test track part of Gran Turismo 5. And as an office with the permanent distraction of a Playstation 2, race seat, force-feedback wheel and a copy of the current GT4, it's the best news we've had since Alonso missed out on the F1 championship.

The latest iteration of the GT series will also be fully online - and, alongside lapping the TG circuit, players will be able to download classic episodes of Top Gear via a dedicated motoring channel called Gran Turismo TV on the Playstation network.

So, how long do we have to wait? As with previous versions of the game a scaled-down prologue will come first with around 10 tracks and 60 cars. This will feature the Top Gear TV content but not the TG track. There's no official word on when this is due, but we're expecting it to hit the UK around Spring next year.

The full version of the game is due to arrive around Christmas 2008 and, again, details are yet to be confirmed. We have been told to expect around 900 cars and, of course, our track.

We'll...

Sony Leaking New PS3 Features With Trademarks

50°
360w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has began to register many new trademarks for US Patent and Trademark Office called Ember, SkyBlue, Carriage Return, and Race Day.

These new trademarks are going to be for new products which some believe could have an impact on either the PS3 or PSP in some way shape or form. These trademarks go hand in hand with the number of other products which went through the same process prior to release such as the games Snakeball, Operation Creature Feature, and others for the PlayStation Network and PlayStation Eye.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan added a new trademark called the Broadcasting Engine. It is believes that this is an effort by Sony to try and connect consumer products such as cell phones to the PS3 and PSP through the PlayStation Network.

PES 2008: Funniest clip ever?

50°
360w ago - Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 isn't actually out until Friday, but a video recording of what must be the oddest football accident ever has already hit YouTube courtesy of SoulPunish3r, tackling our funny bones in the process.

Luck, or bug? Who can be sure? It's likely that the mirthsome moment comes from the next-gen demo, like the one on PlayStation Network, which means if it is a bug it'll be ironed out of the final version. Which, to us, is a bit of a shame. Have a chuckle for yourself below...

Insider says PS3 Blacksite plagued with development trouble

50°
360w ago - IGN recently revealed that players the PS3 version of Blacksite will not have all the online features of the 360 version. On the 360 players will be able to play ranked and unranked matches, and have voice support features. However an insider claims that problems run much deeper than this.

He said "The PS3 version is experiencing issues and missed deadlines," and that it is likely the demo and full game will be delayed. "Midway isn't happy at all about the progress, and it's a story I've heard over and over this year across the industry when it comes to the PS3 and cross-platform titles," the insider states.

To quote: The Unreal Engine powers Blacksite, which presents the possibility that the engine itself is leading to development problems. Midway's other big PS3 releases of Stranglehold and Unreal Tournament 3 have also seen long delays.

Sadly, the problems with Blacksite: Area 51 only further the growing list of problematic multiplatform releases on the PS3, and could reinforce the qualms about working with the Unreal Engine among multiplatform developers.
