Musler: PS3 will catch up to, if not surpass, 360

371w ago - PS2 could remain viable through 2009

Sega's director of artists and repertoire agrees with analysts who think that the PS3 is going to catch up to, if not surpass, the Xbox 360.

It isn't just the recent PS3 price cuts which will certainly help bridge the gap, but the availability of big titles, Noah Musler told GamesIndustry.biz.
"Microsoft has done a good job of closing the gap between the platforms. I don't think they are in the situation they were in with the PS2 and Xbox 1, but it is still too soon to say," Musler remarked.

He notes that analysts think the PS2 could remain viable through 2009.
Having a variety of PS3 prices for consumers is certainly not going to hurt the PS3. "I think it has still got a little bit of time to grow," he said.
"Fortunately, there are a lot of videogame consumers out there, and the market continues to grow.

"People want to play games, and the games keep getting better. The development community is really driving that by making great product."

PS3 outsells Wii thanks to must-have game (in Japan)

50°
371w ago - In news that Sony executives have been praying nightly for, the PS3 outsold the Wii in Japan from Nov 5th-11th. Even better for the beleaguered console, it wasn't the result of price cuts or satanic rituals, but an honest to goodness game people wanted to play.

Shin Sangoku Musou 5 isn't a bunch of words you'll have seen before (unless a cat jumps on your keyboard), but you may know it as Dynasty Warriors and its popularity is credited by Kotaku with helping the PS3 shift units.

Sony can't take all the responsibility for this success - and they know it. Even CEO Howard Stringer admits that a big part of the victory is the minor detail that Nintendo still can't build consoles as fast as people buy them - as reported by the Associated Press - so it would be premature to claim the PS3 is making a comeback.

Still, it's encouraging news for all those fans of the Blu-ray box, and gives hope that their favoured console can gain a secure foothold in the an important market.

While the Dynasty Warriors series isn't popular enough in the west to spur a similar sales improvement, it seems the recent price cut is doing just fine with console sales doubling in the following weeks (reported by Reuters). Of course, it's very easy to throw around words like double and triple...

Don't sign into PSN and disable info board to avoid Assassin's Creed issues

50°
371w ago - William Harrison believes he has the solutions to fix the Assassin's Creed issues of freezing and frame rate problems which PS3 users are experiencing. He suggests it is wise to not sign into PSN and to disable the information board and this should solve the issues.

To quote: There seems to be an awful lot of people having problems with Assassins Creed, freezing and frame rate issues, well there is a fix you'll be glad to know, and its an easy one, all you have to do is disable the information board, press triangle on it and disable it and these problems should go away. Also do not sign into the PSN network.

This has worked for me (for now) and a few others but please get back to us and tell whether it worked for you or not.

PS3 Firmware 2.01 = Assassins Creed fix?

200°
371w ago - With the release of Assassins Creed marred by tasteless Jade Raymond jokes, glitches, freezing and a "white screen of death" , PS3 and Xbox 360 owners are up in arms. It has been noted that many of those who have encountered issues are using the 2.0 firmware, causing many users to hold off on the current update. As of now, Ubisoft Official Forum managers are urging its forum give them as much information as possible so that these problems may be resolved. Within the very same time-frame, the official Playstation Blog has let word out that a 2.01 update is on the horizon.

A 2.01 update so soon after the big 2.0 seems rather strange. The only detail mentioned in the blog post is that the coming update will be "a minor update that will improve the stability of PLAYSTATION 3." The key word definitely being stability. This is why, I am of the opinion that this coming update directly addresses the technical issues with Assassins Creed, similar to the updates that did some tweaking on Warhawk and Lair. Hopefully this will get resolved quickly cause my pre-order just shipped.
