206w ago - A fake Dragon Quest IX ROM is currently in circulation online, and those who download and run the ROM can expect to receive a bricked Nintendo DS system.
The supposed rom is actually DarkFader's slideshow bricker released a few years back.
To quote from Triforce of DS-Scene (linked above):
Just a heads up in case anyone sees this release and gets excited, Dragon Quest IX JPN DSi Enhanced NDS iND is fake. Someone released it on 2chan claiming to have dumped the game early providing this image as proof the game was out.
In fact if you choose to check it out for yourself you will see it's actually a hentai slideshow called DS Owata. Images below are censored due to the graphic content.
I guess this was to be expected and has happened with a few other major releases in the past. The fake Zelda that retrohead (ds-scene's founder) released a couple of years ago springs to mind. Skip the small fry!
I cant believe I didn't notice this at first, I think this is actually the slideshow bricker DarkFader released years ago.
206w ago - Although the original article is quite dated, we haven't posted on this here yet... so for those who didn't already know:
Similar to Skype, Jajah is a VOIP service which has modified its interface to allow gamers to make calls using the PS3 browser.
According to this report, users will be able to make "free or cheap" phone calls, though the number has to be pre-configured.
To quote: "Jajah now brings free or cheap calling into the living room and away from computers. Initiating a call with Jajah can now be done while lounging in front of the TV with no need to fire up the computer," said Roman Scharf, a Jajah co-founder.
"This means that the whole family, regardless of interests or technological skills, can make cheap or even free calls from their normal home phone."
207w ago - The PlayStation 3 has kept access to Hulu even without PlayOn or other workaround while others were blocked, with the exception of its own remote friendly desktop software, thanks to its browser's Flash support.
However, this morning multiple users have reported the above message indicating "Unfortunately, this video is not available on your platform.
To quote: Some odd glitch related to the recent PS3 2.80 Firmware update or other temporary problem, or is this the latest platform to get the Boxee treatment when trying to bring streaming video to TV screens?
We've reached out to Hulu for an explanation but so far, haven't heard a response.
Interestingly, the Hulu TOS was just updated as of June 26, and although we haven't found any PS3-specific passages, changing a browser's user-string to match the console reveals it is definitely being specifically blocked.
210w ago - Below you will read about many of the secrets of E3; secret in that they did not come with a press release or a screenshot, nor was the information released to anyone walking by.
It was heard whispered behind backs, imparted across beers or was pried out via targeted questioning. Nothing can be considered anything more than a rumor as some of it may never eventuate when all is said and done, or be flat out denied by those involved.
To quote: Perhaps the first big splash of E3 was Kojima getting up on stage at the Xbox 360 conference and announcing Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the console. Some gamers were surprised, although most had seen it coming. Sony, however, was in shock.
It was completely blind-sided by the announcement, finding out about it at the exact moment that the rest of us did: when Kojima walked on stage. My understanding is that a seven hour internal meeting occurred in the higher echelons of Sony soon afterwards.
It rewrote a significant portion of the following day's Sony conference which was to make a big splash about Metal Gear Solid: Rising. I heard a whisper that a 'favor' was called in and Square Enix agreed to air the FFXIV trailer where initially it was to be held off to a Wednesday morning Square Enix showing.
211w ago - I am curious as to what company the most people think won E3. Now this is derived more at their press conferences. So for those who have watched them all like I have it will be a little easier for you.
Now I personally believe Microsoft and Sony had great Press conferences. But I'll get back to them in a minute, as I have a bone to pick with the third competitor.
I am of course talking about Nintendo. They had arguably the WORST E3 PRESS CONFERENCE IN HISTORY! Lets start with my biggest problem, How much they gloated during their show!
Now I can see where you would say maybe once, twice even three times that you are "The leader in sales" or in your opinion "The most innovative". But Nintendo seriously said it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! which ended up taking up 50 minutes of their 70 minute long video.
The format was this. "Talk about how innovative Nintendo has always been, Talk about how Innovative the Wii is, Talk about how innovative the DSi is (My behind), Talk about a game for 2-5 minutes." Although the first 3 could be in any order, the "talk about a game" always came last.
And that's how it went. On top of that, just for giggles I guess, they brought back the "Broken leg" Lady who talked about her broken leg for 15 minutes last year. Instead shes now staring...
