Sega Unveils Tokyo Tour Through Eyes of Yakuza: Dead Souls PS3

50°
144w ago - Sega of America Community Manager Kellie Parker has shared a virtual tour of Tokyo this weekend through the eyes of Yakuza: Dead Souls on the PS3 entertainment system.

To quote: Many people dream of visiting Tokyo and a few lucky ones actually get to go. If the long flights, heavy suitcases and language barriers just aren't in the cards for you, don't fret.

You can still see some actual real-life Tokyo sights, restaurants, amusements and more in Yakuza: Dead Souls - which is out now on PS3, by the way.

Just like any good tourist guidebook, here's a map of Kamurocho (a city inspired by the famous red light district in Tokyo), with a numbered list of restaurants, advertising and more that are actually real-life things. We've also added the location of the first three zombie bosses*. We're just nice like that.

*The location of these items doesn't match those that can be found in real-life.

Also, we must warn you: there are no zombies in the real Tokyo - at least, as far as we know - but there are many, many more of them in Yakuza: Dead Souls than we've shown on this map. We'll let you find them all (or let them find you first)!

2. If you'd prefer to eat at home or in your hotel room while watching strange Japanese TV shows, you could buy a pack of...

Sony Unveils The Surprising Origins of Gravity Rush for PS Vita

200°
144w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has unveiled the surprising origins of Gravity Rush for PS Vita to fans below today.

To quote: Based on the sheer number of questions we get about Gravity Rush, it's clearly one of the most-anticipated PS Vita games coming along in the next few months.

Featuring stunning, cel-shaded visuals, Vita-tailored controls, and gravity-based gameplay, it's no wonder that reviewers across the Pacific have awarded the game (known as "Gravity Daze" in Japan) high marks.

So when the game's creators dropped into San Francisco last week for Game Developers Conference, I jumped at the chance to speak with them.

In this conversation (shared with IGN's Ryan Clements - look for his story soon at Vita.IGN.com), Game Director Keiichiro Toyama and Art Director Yoshiaki Yamaguchi talk about the game's original platform (not PS Vita!), why they avoided an overly Japanese aesthetic, and the surprising inspiration for its unique gravity-based gameplay.

Ryan Clements, IGN: How did you get started on the project? What are your roots in the industry?

Keiichiro Toyama, Japan Studio: I was studying art as a student. I joined Konami as a graphic artist and become director on Silent Hill, and...

Video: Quantic Dream Unveils Kara GDC Demonstration Trailer

350°
145w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared a Kara demonstration video trailer below courtesy of Quantic Dream from this year's GDC event.

To quote: Head-turning videogame tech demos are a dime a dozen at Game Developers' Conference, but developer Quantic Dream might have this year's crop beat.

Watch the full tech demo video for "Kara" below to see how the creators of Heavy Rain are looking to expand virtual performances in video games.

And just to be extra clear: No, "Kara" is not Quantic Dream's next game.

Director David Cage was on-hand at GDC to debut the new video to the press, and his presentation touched on the origins of "Kara" - we've selected a few choice quotes below. Check back tomorrow to hear our full interview with Cage on the Official PlayStation Blogcast. It's one interview you won't want to miss!

After Heavy Rain, we wanted to push the envelope in terms of quality, starting with the visuals. We wanted to improve many things - things that were not possible with the Heavy Rain engine. So we had to develop a new engine from scratch.

We also wanted to improve the quality of the acting. With Heavy Rain, we did what many games do - split performances,...

Video: Ubisoft Unveils Assassin's Creed III's First PS3 Trailer

350°
146w ago - Today Ubisoft Community Developer Gabriel Graziani has officially unveiled Assassin's Creed III's first PS3 trailer below!

To quote: After several years of work, by hundreds of some of the most talented developers on the planet, we are extraordinarily pleased to show you the very first official trailer for Assassin's Creed III.

Today, we'd like to offer a glimpse of the rich backdrop provided by the American Revolution, as well as sneaking in some details about our Native American protagonist: Connor.

Keep your eyes peeled for a certain historic figure you may recognize (trust me, he'll be hard to miss)... and ponder his role both in a story of the foundation of a nation and the ceaseless conflict between the Templars and Assassins.

As previously announced, Assassin's Creed III ships for PS3 on October 30, 2012.
