324w ago - The Firmware update PlayStation 3 owners across the globe have been waiting for is nearly here. In part one of a video walkthrough posted on the PlayStation Blog, PSN director Eric Lempel gives us a detailed preview of the impending 2.4 Firmware update, highlighting the much requested in-game XMB access feature.

To quote: Hi everyone! We know you're all patiently waiting for the next PS3 firmware update, v2.40, which includes XMB access in-game and Trophy support. The good news is that it's coming soon, and you can now see how accessing the XMB from in-game will work in this video demo.

Shortly, we'll be posting another video here on the PlayStation.Blog that shows the Trophy feature in action for the first time. At that time we'll provide even more details on how firmware v2.40 will enhance your PLAYSTATION 3 experience.

Tipsters pour in with PS3 Trophy Screens and In-game XMB info

200°
325w ago - From PS3FanBoy, linked above: A short while ago a tipster leaked a PS3 trophy screen, while the validity of it was doubted, another tipster came into the frame to say what was posted is indeed real.

He sent along a new picture of one of the other pages too which are called gamer card and compare, and your gamer card will feature a trophy total and level.

To quote: Another tipster, calling himself "Gassy Snake," claims that he is a game developer who can vouch for The Patriots. He claims that the above image is real and, to prove it, proceeded to send us a picture of one of the other pages. These pages are called "gamer card" and "compare."

As you can see below, your gamer card will feature a trophy total and a "level." How you progress up these levels is anyone's guess, but there also seems to be some room for extra information of some kind.

Official Confirmation: PS3 Firmware 2.36 coming soon; 2.40 to offer In-game XMB and Trophies

250°
326w ago - After weeks of rumored PS3 Firmware 2.40 coming and the recently rumored intermediate 2.36 update, today we finally have official confirmation straight from Eric Lempel (Director, PlayStation Network Operations) as follows:

A new PLAYSTATION 3 firmware update (v2.36) will be launching soon, improving system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles.

We're also happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include "XMB" access in-game. The update will also include "trophies," an exciting new feature that we'll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements.

We've talked about some of this on the blog previously and know that many of you can't wait to get your hands on these features. You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly.

Video: A Peek At PS3 TEST Firmware 2.40!

50°
327w ago - The retail counterpart is rumored to be released during mid to late June, however, recently we had a chance to check out PS3 Debug/TEST Firmware v2.40 (116 MB - 122,268,311 bytes).

Below is a video of it in action, displaying some of the new features. As expected, we can confirm from 2.40 onwards, the system software can be called any time during the gameplay. It appears the in-game XMB does not work while playing PS2 titles, probably the same with PS1 titles as well although we didn't have a PS1 game handy to try.

The video is slightly better quality than the previous PS3 TEST SD Launcher 1.00 Video as video capture was used this time instead of our old camera... as there is no need to view the TEST PS3 in the video this round.

Anyway, more soon... enjoy the video!
