Video: KickBeat Launches Today for PS3 and PlayStation Vita

50°
46w ago - Zen Studios Community Manager Bobby Loertscher announced that KickBeat launches today for both PS3 and PlayStation Vita platforms.

To quote: KickBeat has been in development for more than three years, and today we're full of energy as we release the game into the wild and onto your PS Vita and PS3.

Why KickBeat? Here are a few reasons we made this game, and why we know you'll enjoy it:

• KickBeat lets you interact with music! We've given you the power of an endless game by allowing you to create your own KickBeat tracks using the "Beat Your Music" mode, which allows you to generate levels with your own music.
• KickBeat is the first rhythm game with fully 3D interactive characters. Once you have the basic mechanics down, we remove the button cues and the characters themselves become the cues! Beat matching with 3D characters is no simple process – our guys ended up animating all of these movements by hand in order to make them precise enough for beat matching! Further, these are all running at a solid 60 FPS!
• The KickBeat soundtrack is comprised of 18 hard-hitting tracks from a diverse lineup of artists, from well-known bands such as Pendulum and Marilyn Manson, to indie pioneers Celldweller and Blue Stahli - even to hidden talents like electronic music...

Sony Announces Spelunky Lands on PS3 and PS Vita via PSN Today

50°
47w ago - Today Derek Yu at Mossmouth announced on Sony's blog that Spelunky lands on both PS3 and PS Vita via PSN with details below.

To quote: Spelunky is arriving on PlayStation Store today for PS Vita and PS3. As part of PS Vita Summer Select, PS Plus members will receive 20% off through September 2nd! Yay!

This is Spelunky's PlayStation debut as well as its handheld debut. It also happens to be the first game I've ever released on a handheld, which is personally very exciting, as portable gaming has been such a big part of my life. And I can't think of a better game or system to do this with!

Spelunky has two qualities that make it a great portable experience, in my opinion. On the one hand, it's very much a classic arcade game - challenging, but short.

It may take you a thousand tries to finally beat it, but each run will last under an hour (some only a few seconds!). On the other hand, Spelunky also borrows a lot from roguelikes, like the randomization, freedom of choice, and numerous, surprising possibilities.

The result, I hope, is a game that you will play for years and years on your Vita: on your bed, on the train, and abroad (maybe even in a real cave somewhere?).

New Sony PS3 and PSN Releases for the Week of August 26, 2013

50°
48w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Rey Gutierrez is here with the new PS3, PS Vita and PSN releases for the upcoming week today, as follows:

On PS3 Blu-ray and a full digital download on PSN, Killer Is Dead is the latest title from the demented mind of celebrated game creator, SUDA51, serving as a spiritual successor to his previous cult favorites, No More Heroes and Killer 7.

Stylish cell-shaded visuals set the mood in this gritty, bloody, ultra-violent world where biomechanical augmentations increase the power of criminals and "executioners" alike. Mondo Zappa, a newly recruited executioner, hunts criminals wielding a Japanese sword in his right hand, and the crushing power of biomechanical engineering in his left. Enjoy this week's The Drop!

Killer is Dead (Also on PSN) - A reputable execution agency's newest recruit, Mondo Zappa, takes center stage as he stalks and beheads a wide variety of heinous criminals all across the world (and even, perhaps, outside of it). As he settles into his new job, he also comes to terms with his own inner demons, balancing his talent for dispensing swift and brutal justice with his fleeting memories of a traumatic past, and peppering it all with his many sensual conquests.

Be he a killer, a lover or a gigolo, his many tales...

Cellar Door Games: Rogue Legacy is Coming to PS Vita, PS3, PS4

50°
48w ago - Cellar Door Games Designer Teddy Lee announced today that Rogue Legacy is coming to PS Vita, PS3 and PS4.

Below are the details, to quote: So if you guys have been surfing the web, you might have heard that Rogue Legacy is coming to PS Vita, PS3, and PS4. Well... it is! Pretty crazy stuff.

If you guys didn't watch the Sony Gamescom conference, you can check it out [Register or Login to view links]. Feel free to watch for, like, 30 seconds, even though the rest of it is really cool.

Rogue Legacy had only been out for about 2 weeks before we were contacted by Sony, so we're blown away by how fast they reached out to us.

But Shahid and Shane have been great guys to work with, and we were able to get the a-okay to develop Rogue Legacy for all Sony platforms in a ridiculously short period of time. So yeah, go Sony! It's hard to believe that Rogue Legacy was all but unknown a short 4 months ago, and now we're still unknown and it's four months later.

If you've never played Rogue Legacy before, think of it as a genealogical Rogue-LITE. It takes a bunch of roguelike elements such as procedural generation, tough difficulty, and perma-death, and puts its own spin on it. For example, when you die you don't start from...

Video: Bubble-popping RPG Supermagical Coming to PS3 and PS Vita

50°
48w ago - Tama Games Producer Alan Crane shared a video today on the bubble-popping RPG Supermagical which is coming to both PS3 and PS Vita platforms.

To quote: Hello everyone. My name is Alan Crane from Tama Games, and I am the producer of Supermagical, writing to you now here to tell you about our upcoming PSN title.

With Supermagical, we wanted to create a classic bubble-popping game and the traditional, yet with ever-so enticing RPG (Role Playing Game) elements.

You will be able to unlock mighty allies, level them up with awesome power-ups, create new spells, acquire special items to advance your abilities as well - and the rest I'd like to save for you guys to find out!

If you are on the fence about this unorthodox combination of bubble-popping and RPG don't fret. We wanted this to be a fun and memorable experience for everyone. Everyone involved in this game is a true gamer with a strong passion for making games that every gamer and non-gamer would enjoy playing.

We make sure the games we make are those we would enjoy playing ourselves. There are no big firms or big bags of cash exchanging hands here - without mentioning any names, but there is more than one of us still indwelling the parent's basement and working from there. We are doing this basically...
