Daily Challenges Now Available in Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita

50°
53w ago - Mossmouth's Derek Yu announced today that daily challenges are now available in Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita platforms.

Below are the details, to quote: Hey, everyone! It's Derek once again. First off, thank you for your tremendous support of Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita.

You've made it clear that it was the right choice bringing the game to PlayStation! We're really happy about how the game has been received (generally with much glee, followed by screams of anguish, followed by more glee).

But I'm really here to talk about our first update, which is out now. Of course, every game launches with some number of bugs, and Blitworks has been working hard to fix as many of those as possible. The slowdown in certain areas of the game was probably the biggest issue, and that's been addressed. They also fixed a bug that was preventing certain Trophies from being earned.

Also, if you've been watching streams of people playing Spelunky on PC, you may have noticed that that version of the game has a unique feature called the Daily Challenge, where each day a set of levels is generated that has the same seed for everyone playing it. If you get a high score on the Daily Challenge, you can really attribute it to your skill and knowledge of the game, rather than the luck of the draw (i.e....

Backgammon Blitz is Coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita This Winter

50°
55w ago - The Fyzz Facility Head of Mobile Manager Robert Karp confirmed today that Backgammon Blitz is coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita this Winter.

Below are the details, to quote: Hi! I'm Rob Karp. You may remember me from my role as producer at XDev Studio, where I worked on a number of Sony's first-party games over the years.

Today I want to tell you about my latest venture, which is coming to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita this winter. It's called Backgammon Blitz, and it's a game I'm pumped for.

Backgammon has been played for centuries by gamers young, old, and ancient. It appears to be a simple game about getting your checkers around the board before your opponent, but has immense layers of depth and strategy to it.

I'm just the messenger, of course. The talented folks behind this lovely little title are VooFoo Studios. Having made a name for themselves with Hustle Kings and Pure Chess, Backgammon feels like a step onwards and upwards for the studio, taking all of their strengths (gorgeous art design, a subtle but stylish approach to UI) and none of their weaknesses (cake night every Friday) into the next generation of platforms.

The team are so keen to whet your appetite for the world of backgammon that they're offering a trial version of the game that'll teach you the...

Zen Studios Confirms CastleStorm is Out Today on PS3 and PS Vita

50°
55w ago - Zen Studios Community Manager Bobby Loertscher confirmed that CastleStorm is out today on PS3 and PS Vita platforms.

To quote: If you like building castles, destroying castles, knights, vikings, war, weapons, spells, troops, multiplayer, PS3, PS Vita, cross buy, well... CastleStorm is your game! CastleStorm launches today for both PS3 and PS Vita.

For those of you getting ready to play later today, we thought it would be nice to give you some tips on using the ballista, the primary weapon mounted just above your castle's gate.

Starting out, you'll utilize the low-powered, quick-spawning javelin, while the vikings fire harpoons. As the game progresses, you'll unlock more projectiles for your arsenal and upgrade these with gold you earn during missions.

The javelins and harpoons have the shortest regeneration period and will be your best asset in early levels. Getting five kills at once activates a shooting frenzy, which means you can shoot all projectiles in rapid succession for a few seconds. No regeneration period means you can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time, so don't hesitate to fire away.

While javelins are meant for targeting specific enemies on the ground, the Knights' Apple Grenade can either be used to take out a cluster of oncoming enemies,...

Cleaning Up with Dustforce on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, Details

50°
55w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements shared details today on cleaning up with Dustforce for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.

To quote: Sprint, leap, and clean towards victory. Dustforce celebrates precision platforming, and embraces its 2D roots by spritzing the whole experience with colorful characters and a grooving anime twist. In Dustforce, players gun for the best time and most complete run through more than 50 stages.

Originally developed by a small indie team for the PC crowd, Capcom is bringing Dustforce to PS3 and PS Vita. All the charm and addictive play of the PC version returns, along with online multiplayer (ranked and private), shiny Trophies, and cross save support. Now the PlayStation community can train to become the greatest of ninja janitors the world has ever known.

The Capcom crew brought Dustforce by for Justin and me to play. Listen to our interview with them below, then read on for our full impressions.

Dustforce gives players room to breathe. At the start, stages are short, simple, and teach newcomers how to successfully navigate obstacles and clean up the most dust to achieve high scores. Jumps are cozy, and the levels themselves are designed to pull the player into a flow.

One run through a stage reveals the layout and enemy placement,...
