IGN launching "PlayStation Network Portal"

50°
354w ago - If you're a casual reader of the web site IGN, you may have stumbled across this web page.

It's a new portal for the PlayStation Network, ostensibly, so we can assume IGN and Sony have partnered up to develop some sort of exclusive news site.

God of War III officially PS3-bound

50°
354w ago - Confirming Cory Barlog's exit from its Santa Monica studio, SCEA announces Kratos is indeed coming to its next-gen console.

In March, Sony Computer Entertainment America held a lavish launch party in San Francisco for God of War II. In the course of the celebrations, Cory Barlog, the game's outspoken director, dropped some none-too-subtle hints that the series would be coming to the PlayStation 3 along with force feedback.

"If we were to do a God of War III on the PS3," Barlog told the enthusiastic crowd. "We're excited about the potential--maybe, no commitment, no announcement or anything like that--to maybe have [God of War hero] Kratos in 1080p with the Sixaxis and vibration. Vibration is coming back to the PS3, that's pretty cool, huh?"

At the time of Barlog's outburst, SCEA reps would comment on neither a rumble-enabled Sixaxis nor God of War III coming to the PS3. Now, less than two months after the Dual Shock 3 was unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show, Sony has officially confirmed that God of War III is indeed in development exclusively for the PS3 at SCEA's Santa Monica studio. It provided no further details on the game.

Unfortunately, the God of War III announcement was tempered by some bittersweet news. SCEA has confirmed Barlog himself no longer works at the company's...

PS3 2.0... Finally some Official Information?

50°
354w ago - Just recently on the G.A.P. (Gamer Advisory Panel) section of the US PlayStation site there has been posted a survey for all G.A.P. members. The survey asks:

Choose which XMB™ (Cross Media Bar) feature would be most important to you in a possible PLAYSTATION®Network update:

A) In-game access to PSN messaging
B) Ability to play my own music from the XMB while in-game
C) Larger buddy list and buddy-list features such as categorizing

Now this, combined with the recent PSP update which offers a feature that may only be used with PS3 FW 2.0 makes for a pretty strong sense that Sony is thinking about releasing the update very soon.

Now this also brings up another worrying issue for the fans hoping to get in-game XMB soon. In the survey it asks to choose only ONE of the following. Does this mean that the complete XMB menu will not be available in-game, and just a portion of it will? Let the speculation begin! Thus far, for those who aren't a GAP member their survey looks like this:

A) 43% 360 votes
B) 52% 442 votes
C) 5% 42 Votes

GameFly Charts: Assassin's Creed Threatens Call of Duty's Life At The Top

50°
354w ago - This week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, representing the most requested games for the week ending November 5th, highlight both to-be-released and already released games in a unique demand-specific chart.

Last week saw popularity en masse for EA's Simpsons Game, which suffers a good deal of slippage this week in favor of Assassin's Creed's rush on the top five of every platform on which it's available, while The Orange Box, which spent weeks in the top five, is also displaced. Interestingly, PlayStation 3 is the only applicable platform where Call of Duty doesn't take first, yielding the spot to Assassin's Creed instead.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare still stands at number one in the top five all-platform requests, while Assassin's Creed takes second. The big disruption in the top five rustles Ace Combat 6, Orange Box and Jericho right out, as Timeshift enters third place and Mass Effect takes the fifth spot. Super Mario Galaxy comes in fourth position, marking the first time in several weeks that a Wii title has broken into the top five all-platform requests.

What follows is a breakdown of the top titles requested by GameFly subscribers across each of the major platforms:

Xbox 360

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision)
