Mirror's Edge finally gets Dated, Arrives on November 11

200°
309w ago - EA has announced that the much-hyped free-running FPS Mirror's Edge will launch on November 11th on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the PC version shipping "later in the winter". That of course means that it might not make 2008. Sad times for PC gamers.

Nevertheless, the publisher also confirmed that a demo would be available prior to release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, allowing gamers to trial a segment of the single player mode. Starting September 26th, gamers who pre-order the game at selected retailers will also get an exclusive code that unlocks a Time Trial mode in the demo.

"Mirror's Edge is bringing something new to the action-adventure genre this holiday by putting the player in the shoes of the hero, seeing what she sees, feeling what she feels," says Owen O'Brien, Senior Producer, DICE. "We wanted to create an entirely new experience, with a different type of heroine and a world that not only looks fresh and new but has unique gameplay."

As EA were quick to remind us, Mirror's Edge delivers players straight into the shoes of Faith, a modern day heroine who traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat, fast-paced chases and challenging puzzles. And it looks great.

XBox Pure was Actually Contaminated

100°
309w ago - Xbox Pure was meant to be the name of an upcoming Xbox 360, perhaps a slimline version or a new 360 successor, but has turned out to be a fake blog posting to see which games sites would run with it. With so many rumours online, was this a fair test of a gamer site's fact-checking skills?

Games Web site "Cheap Ass Gamer" (CAG) had listed a blog posting by "desz", claiming to potentially have the details of the Xbox's "new name".

The posting says: "I'm not completely positive how true this is, but most of the things GilZ sends my way are true. He was correct about the new price drops, new HDMI models, new Elites, and now a picture sent to us with clearly visible text, in what appears to be either the 360's new name or the next xbox's final name. "XBOXPure" is what looks to be the final choice in this document. Take a look!"

The picture in question is a plain sheet of paper with some text claiming to be a memo from Microsoft, with handwriting making some points, while showing that "Xbox Pure" was the "final" name chosen for the new box.

As you'd imagine, with plenty of rumors flying around the Internet all the time (just think of all those supposed iPhone or iPod pics that...

Jaffe And Sony Named in Suit Over Alleged God of War Plagiarism

50°
310w ago - It seems God of War may have looked to more than just Greek Mythology for inspiration. Sony and game designer David Jaffe have been sued for copyright infringement.

The suit claims that story elements of God of War were stolen from a pre-existing works of fiction submitted to Sony in 2002. Now here's how it goes:

* The works of fiction were submitted to Sony in 2002
* The first game was released in 2005
* Jaffe once said that the game took three years to develop

Coinkidink? Well, the plaintiffs don't seem to think so. The plaintiffs, Jonathan Bissoon-Dath and Jennifer Barrette-Herzog, cited several examples to how the game stole from their work. Examples of these are:

* Plaintiff's works tell the original story of how a champion saves Athens from destruction by the invading Spartan army that has been sent by Ares... [GoW]... is the story of how a champion chosen by Zeus and Athens saves Athen from destruction by an invading army sent by Ares...

* In plaintiff's original work and God of War, the Champion's family is hacked to death in a one-room building in a small peaceful village. In both stories the Champion feels partially responsible even though he is not really to blame...
