Official Word on the Fallout 3 Changes: Morphine Now Med-X

100°
307w ago - There's been a lot of talk in the blogosphere about changes that were made to Fallout 3 so that the game wasn't banned in certain territories (most notably Austraila). It was revealed yesterday by Edge Online that the changes made to the game would be made across all territories, so as to not create confusion, but what changes, specifically?

I shot a note to Pete Hines, VP of Marketing and PR at Bethesda, to find out just what was changed.

UGO: Just wanted to confirm the annoucement that all versions of Fallout 3 would be indentical, with the changes being made to the names of specific drugs (changing them from real-world names to in-universe names). Can you be more specific? If I recall, all of the drugs in the builds we've played were made-up names like Buffout and Mentats.

Pete Hines: The chems in the original Fallout used fictional names... Buffout, Jet, Rad-X, etc. Those all appear in Fallout 3 in exactly the same way as before.

We had added a new chem to Fallout 3 and had given it a real-world name, Morphine. Questions were raised about the use of that real-world drug, not only in Australia, but other territories as well. We decided there was no reason it needed to be named that and...

Confirmed: BioShock on PS3 has 5GB, 10-Minute HDD Install

300°
307w ago - Update: Just like the original BioShock, today [Register or Login to view links] has confirmed that BioShock 2 also includes a 5GB PS3 HDD installation, and will arrive in North America on February 9, 2010.

The PS3 version of BioShock has a 5GB mandatory install that takes a little over 10 minutes to complete.

While the game's trundling onto your hard drive, your TV shows your Rapture ads and plays a little piano music.

The game was rumored to have a sizable install after the BBFC rated the game back in July, but 2K commented at the time that it was likely to have an install of "around 5 or 6 minutes" at most, according to this DarkZero report.

The news comes from the new Eurogamer playtest.

BioShock releases for PS3 on October 24, 2008.

Lost Mission Discovered in Call of Duty 4

200°
307w ago - A curious PC gamer has discovered a previously unseen mission in Call of Duty 4 - an extended training sequence that was dropped from the final game.

The find was reported by Infinity Ward's community chap Robert Bowling, and the video is below courtesy of aCoDModder. It shows what Infinity Ward originally had between the rifle range and the timed run through the mock house that the game uses to suggest a difficulty setting. An embarassingly low one, in my case.

Can't say the game suffers all that much for leaving it out, but it does answer one question for me: when I played, I really did wonder why they'd left that crappy-looking car outside the training building. Nice to know it was there for a reason... Enjoy!

Call of Duty 4: New Playlists and Double-XP Promo Coming?

50°
308w ago - According to Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward's director of communications, the team has an Xbox Live and PlayStation Network promotion in the pipeline for the weekend of September 13th. Exact details of the promotion haven't yet been revealed, but Bowling stated that double-experience points will be on offer for those itching to raise their in-game rank quickly.

More interesting, however, is the fact that Infinity Ward's developers are pushing hard to complete their new playlist updates in time for the promotion - making it all one-big promotion, says Bowling.

Should the team manage to get it done, and certified by both Microsoft and Sony, we could see some of the following playlists next weekend. Be aware, though, that Bowling has stated that the following list is far from final, and there's currently no telling what we'll receive.

To quote: Back from PAX means back to work, and while it's a short week thanks to Labor Day it's the one time I wish it wasn't because I have a lot of stuff to get done. I'm currently working on getting everything organized and together for an upcoming Xbox Live / PSN promotion we have coming up the weekend of Sept. 13th - 14th.

Which isn't this weekend, but next weekend. I will have exact details on what it is in the near future but...
