Latest MotorStorm update out today

50°
355w ago - The latest MotorStorm update has been released today. Now included is a vehicle selection of 2D/3D within the host options as well as mirrored tracks. There is also 2 new music tracks in the form of Devils Crossing and Beat the Devil.

To quote: The host can also choose mirrored tracks which reverses the entire geometry set of the tracks. Where you went left you will now go right. An interesting mix, and will take some getting used too not to forget which way you're actually going!

The addition of a proximity meter in MotorStorm mode is also welcome, and works like the one in eliminator mode.

There are also 2 new music tracks, 'Devils Crossing' by Elite Force and 'Beat The Devil' by Jiffster (Featuring Bard)

Unreal Tournament developer doles out some tips

50°
355w ago - Unreal Tournament III finally gets released in the US tomorrow and one of its developers, Art Production Manager Chris Mielke, has posted some tips on the PlayStation.Blog.

So if you're picking the game up at any point, make sure you take note of Chris' advice. While the main bulk of his post is a walkthrough of the level "Suspense" he also includes some random pearls of wisdom. Check out the blog post and try to osmose as much information as you can in readiness of tomorrow.

We love the idea of developers coming online and giving tips about their upcoming titles. We've seen this before with "things to try" lists for demos and would be happy to see the trend continue. Not that there are many other games coming for the rest of the year - which is fine by us. We're swamped with all the great releases over the last two months.

PSP Phone concept, I think I like this one the best

50°
355w ago - So gamers realize that when cellphone manufacturers try and combine gaming and cell-phones they usually screw it up, so in an effort to push Sony-Ericsson in the right direction, some guy came up with this design for the PSP phone. It maintains the full functionality of the PSP but adds the phone functionality in.

It looks like it's a dual slider that slides up for the phone keypad or at an angle for the PSP controls. Sure, you might lose the UMD slot with this design, but it's on its way out already, so by the time this phone would be released, you should be good to go.

The best part is that instead of trying to build a gaming platform onto some mediocre mobile devices, you'd be taking an already fairly well-developed gaming platform and try and build a phone into it, I have a feeling that it would work a lot better this way. Also, this guy apparently things that a PSP phone would be deservant of a 3.2MP cam on the back and hopefully 3rd or 4th generation WWAN access on top of the WiFi the PSP already has. Sadly, this is just a concept, and not even one from Sony or Sony-Ericsson, but it's a great one, so it probably won't get used.

Take-Two future in jeopardy due to GTA 4 delay

50°
355w ago - The delay of Grand Theft Auto 4 on PS3 and Xbox 360 did more than upset millions of gamers anxiously awaiting its release -- it further complicated Take-Two's ongoing attempts to return to profitability.

According to The Street, the publisher could run out of both cash and credit reserves as soon as January or February, making the spring release of GTA 4 that much more crucial to the publisher's survival.

As a result, an incredible 32 percent of company stock is outstanding, meaning investors are anything but confident with Rockstar's sugar daddy at the moment.

Still, analysts say Take-Two can pull though if it launches Grand Theft Auto IV on schedule. Michael Pachter, for one, expects the game to sell 8.5 million copies by October, more than enough to turn things around.

Take-Two has seen a string of financial and management disasters in recent years. Despite its troubles, the publisher was ranked the six largest game-maker behind Nintendo, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and THQ in Game Developers' 2007 Top 20 Publishers list.
