324w ago - TGS 2007. IGN has confirmed rumble in the Sixaxis. The new Burnout will be the first game to support it. (so they say)
Big shocker at today's Electronic Arts pre Tokyo Game Show press event. While playing a demo of Burnout Paradise, we felt something that we never thought we'd feel from a PS3 controller -- shake!
That's right, Burnout Paradise is the first rumble-equipped PS3 game we've ever played. Which made us think at the time, if the game is making the controller shake, the controller must be a new version of the Sixaxis!
In fact, the controller we were using to play the demo looked exactly like a standard Sixaxis, except that it had a sticker on the bottom that said "RUMBLE." It also felt notably heavier than the standard Sixaxis.
We presume this is a prototype of the PlayStation 3's new rumble controller, whatever it's going to be called.
The rumble itself felt around the level of PlayStation 2 rumble. We're not sure just yet if Sony is using any of that next generation technology Immersion has been talking about for the past few months.
A formal announcement is expected tomorrow at Kaz Hirai's keynote address.
As for the rest of the EA event, as well as details from today's Sony and Konami events, check back at IGNPS3 through the night.
324w ago - I've searched ps3news for this bit of mouse controller and couldnt find it, so im posting it here. The right-handed mouse controller has a complete set of PS3 buttons, and will bring PC-style shooting to the PS3.
Peripheral maker SplitFish today unveiled the upcoming FragFX game controller for the PS3. The device features a seperate right handed mouse and detachable left handed grip controller, ideal for experiencing traditional PC mouse and keyboard style gameplay in shooters.
The mouse is also optimized for navigation in the recently announced PlayStation Home virtual world. A menu mode on the mouse allows it to double as a regular mouse during menu selections. A lap mouse pad and left hand grip cradle is included with the FragFX to allow for comfortable play in a living room setting.
324w ago - Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., better known as Foxconn will join ASUSTeK in producing Playstation 3 units for Sony who has set a shipment goal of 10 million PS3 consoles for the first quarter of 2008.
Since Sony launched PS3 consoles in the fourth quarter of last year, ASUSTeK has been Sony's sole supplier of the products. Playstation 3's high price caused ASUSTeK's profits to fall to NT$136.7 billion for the second quarter from NT$222.5 billion posted in the first quarter.
Foxconn manufactures Xbox 360 components for Microsoft and Wii parts for Nintendo. Foxconn already are manufacturing Playstation 2 for Sony. Analysts believe that Sony has reached out for Foxconn in order to reduce Playstation 3 cost and - consequently - price.
324w ago - On the cusp of Tokyo Game Show, the 1up crew tracked down Treasure president Masato Maegawa to ask him all sorts of questions regarding his company's future. Treasure, of course, is the company behind such great titles like Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun and Guardian Heroes.
While we're sure plenty of you would love to download any of those games via the PlayStation Network, it doesn't look like it'll be happening ... at least not for awhile, anyway. Maegawa said that Treasure is just now "fully up and running on developing for Xbox Live Arcade, so to move resources to PSN just now wouldn't make much sense."
324w ago - Today we received delivery of a rather fetching Eye of Judgment press pack, which you can see in the image below. Contained inside its four drawers was everything we needed to play the game, including magic cloth, deck of cards, PlayStation Eye and, of course, the game disk.
Also contained in the box were some fresh screens and a new movie, taken from the game's introduction sequence. No doubt the best way to play The Eye of Judgment will be online or with friends with each of you trying to outmatch your opponent's cards with your own.
