Take-Two future in jeopardy due to GTA 4 delay

50°
354w ago - The delay of Grand Theft Auto 4 on PS3 and Xbox 360 did more than upset millions of gamers anxiously awaiting its release -- it further complicated Take-Two's ongoing attempts to return to profitability.

According to The Street, the publisher could run out of both cash and credit reserves as soon as January or February, making the spring release of GTA 4 that much more crucial to the publisher's survival.

As a result, an incredible 32 percent of company stock is outstanding, meaning investors are anything but confident with Rockstar's sugar daddy at the moment.

Still, analysts say Take-Two can pull though if it launches Grand Theft Auto IV on schedule. Michael Pachter, for one, expects the game to sell 8.5 million copies by October, more than enough to turn things around.

Take-Two has seen a string of financial and management disasters in recent years. Despite its troubles, the publisher was ranked the six largest game-maker behind Nintendo, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and THQ in Game Developers' 2007 Top 20 Publishers list.

Sony's Afrika Still Alive, Enlists Composer

50°
354w ago - We haven't heard much of anything from Sony about their mysterious Afrika game since March. Is it a Pokemon Snap-style photography simulator? Is there actually an adventure game buried in there? Or is it simply Sony's response to the growing popularity of "non-games" in Japan? We, uh, don't really know, but have come across proof the game's definitely still in development; it now has a composer.

By way of the Professional Musicians' Local 47 union newsletter, 1UP can confirm that Wataru Hokoyama -- a Los Angeles-based composer who doesn't appear to have worked in the videogames space before -- has recently hired a 104-piece orchestra to start laying down the symphonies to accompany Afrika, whatever it ends up being.

Sure, that doesn't tell us anything more about the game, but it's somethin'.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 trailer is here to disappoint

50°
354w ago - I enjoyed Rainbow Six Vegas, so I was excited when the sequel was announced. Vegas is just such a bright and vibrant backdrop for a shooter, and the tactical gameplay fit great with the city.

Now, thanks to the Spike Video Game Awards, there's a trailer for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (embedded below).

Unfortunately, it doesn't show a whole lot that actually pertains to the game it is supposed to be showing. It starts out with live-action, talking about what Vegas is, and there's some scantily clad women thrown in to keep your attention while you wait for something interesting to happen.

Sure, there's nothing wrong with throwing some boobs in game trailers (I actually recommend it), but all the live-action stuff isn't necessary and I was hoping for more game footage.

Finally at the end they show more than just actors and close up shots of cards and chips, but it is brief and really doesn't show much. The far too cliche announcer doesn't help, and it comes off more like a cheesy Hollywood movie preview. It wasn't too bad, but I was hoping for much more and it doesn't really help hype the game up. Hopefully they release another trailer soon, but with lots of gameplay and action instead of what this trailer had....
