321w ago - In the latest magazine scan for PSMania, an Italian PlayStation magazine, their rumor mill reveals some interesting things, where you see the Dark Cloud 2 image, it states:
"Uno dei nostri infiltrati, ci ha rivelato che Level 5 sta lavorando a un nuovo Dark Cloud esclusivamente per la PlayStation 3. Questo titolo uscira il Marzo 2009, e sara sviluppato usando una nuova tecnologia stile cel-shading chimata "Kumo Engine"."
Luckily, I was able to get a translation:
"One of our infiltrates, has revealed that Level 5 is working on a new Dark Cloud exclusively for the PlayStation 3. This title will come out in March of 2009, and will be developed using a new open-technology, the Japanese style "Kumo Engine"."
Will Dark Cloud 3 arrive in 2009 for PLAYSTATION 3? If we hear an official announcement, we will let you know.

While the early UTs were billed as sort of the blood sport of the future, Unreal Tournament 3 will usher in a single-player campaign about an intergalactic war and featuring characters that look like they were from the casting call for Gears of War, another Epic game. But while Gears of War is a very tactical game about using cover, Unreal Tournament 3, just like its predecessors, is about lightning-fast run-and-gun gameplay where you'll do a lot of killing and dying, but you're always able to respawn within seconds to continue the fight.
Though Unreal Tournament 3 will have a single-player story, the game is still built around the idea of intense multiplayer battles, either against computer-controlled bots or other players online. (While the PC supports up to 32 players, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions will support up to 16.) There will be a number of modes in the game, ranging from simple deathmatch to team-based games such as capture the flag, vehicle capture the flag, and warfare. Deathmatch is pretty self-explanatory--it's every player for him or herself in the race to rack up kills--so we'll dive into CTF, VCTF, and warfare.
Capture the flag is a familiar mode in most games. Each team has a flag that it has to defend...
321w ago - If you happen to be a PS3 Cell chip, stay the heck away from Valve's Gabe Newell because he doesn't like you very much.
In fact, during an interview with U.K. rag Edge, Newell made it clear that he thinks Sony's entire next generation console is "a waste of everybody's time."
"Investing in the Cell, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There's nothing there that you're going to apply to anything else. You're not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they've created. I don't think they're going to make money off their box. I don't think it's a good solution," Newell said.
Right now, Newell's correct: Sony doesn't make a dime off the PS3 because it's selling the console as a loss leader, and plans to make its money back off licensing for popular games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Square Enix's Final Fantasy IP. That said, when one your biggest Japanese franchises jumps ship to the competition because of high development costs attributed to the PS3's architecture, it doesn't help matters (Monster Hunter 3 is now Wii-exclusive).
Newell, whose Orange Box Xbox 360/PC compilation received rave reviews following its launch earlier this week, has long been...
321w ago - iBrad has posted up a quick top on how to easily improve the framerates for PS3 games. He suggests that all the games he tested with HDMI 720p now run smoother, speedier and are more responsive than they previously were without his adjustments to the XMB options. To quote:
Hi, I've found the following improvements for better and smoother framerates for ps3 games. Like set the BD/DVD upscaler set off, HDMI 24fps off, HDMI audio set on bitstream, PS2 upscaler/smoother set off. Disable system display notify/ mediaserver off / all other automatic setting set to off / internet disable if not multiplaying and other setting etc will all help improve framerates.
I tested all the games with HDMI 720p, and all games runs more smoother, speed and more responsive, I think cell dont have to spend time in the background from those settings before.
Let us know if this also helps the framerates for you too.

It seems it took Mak a fair bit of personal reflection to end up working from his heart instead of purely from his brain, and we're lucky enough to have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of both.
The comparisons to much-beloved psychedelic shooter Rez and its puzzle-happy cousin Lumines are easy, but it's more important to understand why that's the case -- after all, this is an entirely different genre. Simply, ES takes equal advantage of videogames as both a visually and emotionally expressive medium, inextricably fusing its aesthetic and its game mechanics. The rules couldn't be simpler -- shoot everything, collect the resulting dots for points, avoid everything else -- but the details are finessed to perfection; it's as much about when not to shoot as when to go for it.
The reason is twofold: Your tiny "ship" travels much more quickly when you're not firing, and each one of the eight stages has its own combos to find and patterns to exploit. If the screen is filled with 40 enemies, shooting the only flashing one may take care of them all. It's not always so straightforward, though, and takes a keen eye and ear to discover all of the tricks. There are certainly ways to maximize the...
