Latest PS3 Firmware 2.10 Update blocks RSX exploit?

50°
344w ago - Many users are reporting that the latest PS3 Firmware v2.10 may well have cancelled a potential RSX exploit that allowed full GPU access on the PS3.

It is no secret that Sony likes to tackle against any potential hacks, and if this is true it would be a discouragement to further Linux development under full GPU access on the PS3.

As always, only time will tell for sure...

Sony sneaks extra features PS3 into Firmware v2.10

50°
344w ago - The big new features of the latest PS3 firmware DivX and WMV playback, but let us spare a thought for some of the lesser features that sneaked into the latest update. There is a new planet music visualizer, they fixed the video thumbnails in folders not playing and lastly BD/DVD dynamic range control has been tweaked.

And who could forget that the PS3 is now well equipped for the 1.1 profile movies that will hit early next year.

To quote: As well as providing DivX and WMV playback in the latest firmware as we revealed yesterday (which is now out, by the way) Sony have added a couple of really cool new features that aren't documented in the changelist.

Firstly, they've added a new 'planet' music visualiser from our friends at Q Games (press 'square' when playing music) which has got to be the most amazing thing we've ever seen. They've also fixed the video thumbnails in folders not playing, and finally BD/DVD Dynamic Range Control has been tweaked for those late night sessions. With the recent changes the PS3 is now the ultimate Blu-ray player, and the first 1.1 Profile movies come out on the 1st of January.

Play all your PS1 games on your PSP... through Remote Play

50°
344w ago - According to various posts over at the official PlayStation forums, PSP firmware 3.80 and PS3 firmware 2.10 have silently added new functionality to allow users to play PS Store-bought PSOne games and original PSOne game discs on the PSP through Remote Play.

PSOne games via Remote Play also works with firmware 3.71. So as long as your PS3 is updated to 2.10, you can take advantage of this functionality even on a homebrew capable PSP.

To quote: Users have been reporting that Remote Play has been secretly updated in the last firmware revision. With PS3 2.10, PS3 owners that have a Remote Play-ready system will be able to play any PS1 game on their handheld. Yes, that includes both games downloaded from the Store and PS1 game discs. We've personally tried Wild Arms (the downloadable version) and confirmed that it will play via Remote Play. Our tipster tried playing Metal Gear Solid (on disc) and also found that it works. Happy news!

We find ourselves using Remote Play more and more with the inclusion of DivX and WMV playback. Now, PS1 support will increase our time spent with this feature.
