PS3 Eboot Dumper Preview and MEMore!

200°
350w ago - A quick update tonight with a few more details about the upcoming Eboot.bin Dumper utility. It dumps the Eboot.bin from your original PS3 Game disc, and strips the disc layer of encryption, so it is a less-encrypted SELF.

The program is simple to use: first install the package to a TEST/TOOL PS3. Then insert a memory stick in the PS3 and run the program. Upon completion, remove the memory stick and read it in a PC.

You now have an EBOOT.BIN that is void of the disc layer of encryption! There are still a few add-ons that can be made such as dumping to a PC, however that may be done down the road. Below is a picture of the BETA version of the XMB info screen for the utility.

Furthermore, we have noticed it's a bit easier to dump some of the system memory via GDB than our own custom code.

Why? Well check back on that, but we have already found a decrypted sprx in memory, and that was only after a few seconds of looking.. so some good things are to come soon!

Top 10 Most Anticipated Non-sequels of 2008

350w ago - The year 2007 was an incredible year for the videogame industry. I'd even be willing to go out on a limb and say that it was one of the best ever. Our year-end awards here at GamerNode weren't decided over tea and crumb cakes - it was more like acid-edged blades and baseball bats wrapped in barbed wire. There were even horses, and a man on fire. Kyle killed a guy (but let's just keep that between us).

Needless to say, 2007 had many great games, but 2008 may very well be set to top it. As a matter of fact, this article started as a list of just about 30 titles. I can't begin to tell you how much difficulty I faced trying to narrow it down to only a third of that, but I probably would never have completed the task without setting some requirements.

1) Unless the game has been distinctly labeled as a 2008 release, it didn't make the cut (or else you know Resident Evil 5 would take the number one spot).

2) The second requirement was imposed late in the article-writing cycle, not only to make things easier on myself, but also because I thought it'd make for a more interesting, less predictable list of games. Original IP only; No sequels! That's right, there go all of my "safe" answers like Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, GTA IV, or Super Smash Bros Brawl. Not even Star Wars was exempt from...

Halo brought to life on PS3 via UT3 Map

50°
350w ago - Zubren has brought a taste of Halo to Unreal Tournament 3 with the creation of the Halo map named DM-Wizard. However, he states that he has conducted a total re-make and none of the original Halo materials have been used in his version map.

PS3 Download: North American / European / German

This was a great close quarters map and I felt it would be right at home with Unreal Tournament 3. This also has full bot pathing so you can play singleplayer without having to find a server with someone hosting this map.

This is a remake from scratch, none of the materials from the original Halo have been used in this map.

Owners of Blu-ray players may become frozen out, PS3 is safe

300°
350w ago - The BBC reports on how owners of already purchased Blu-ray players may effectively find themselves locked out of future developments in the technology as their machines are not upgradeable.

Later on in the year, BD Live will be launched to support features to connect to the Internet and download content but as Internet functionality is not a strict requirement, no Blu-ray players currently on the market will be able to access this feature.

However, there is one small exception to the previous thought and that is the PS3 which should always be able to keep up with the Blu-ray technology updates due to the correct hardware and online access.

To quote: Machines released onto the market since November are called profile 1.1, but none of the standalone Blu-ray players can be upgraded to accommodate this profile.

Films will still play on the machines, but access to extra features is limited.

Later this year the Blu-ray camp will offer profile 2.0, called BD Live, which will allow the players which support the feature to connect to the internet to download related content, such as ringtones, trailers and photos.

But because internet functionality is not a mandatory requirement in current players, none on the market today will be able to access the feature.
