The Metal Gear Saga Explained: MGS4 and More

50°
357w ago - Everybody - almost everybody - has been waiting, eagerly for the chance to start up their PS3s and boot up a round of MGS4. The series has been around for a while now, since 1987 for the original Metal Gear game, and the first PS version, Metal Gear Solid back in 1998 and the series come a long way since then.

So let's begin the basics of the game. I'll assume that most of you already know the central characters in the game, because otherwise why would you even be reading this? But if you don't and are still reading, please help yourself to Google or Wikipedia to understand what the hell I'm talking about.

The crux of the entire game lies in the Successor project introduced in Portable ops by character called "Gene" (who was created to become the perfect field commander). The Boss, Naked Snake (Big Boss), Gray Fox/Ninja/Frank Jaeger, Solid, Liquid and Solidus are all parts of this project initiated by the Philosophers and this legacy continues with the formation of the Patriots whom we get to a little later.

The Boss, along with a couple of others (Gene/the Cobra Unit) make up the origin of the Successor project initiated by the Philosophers. This is the starting point of all the events that ultimately culminate into MGS4 and beyond (Yes there is a beyond).Within Portable Ops, both...

PSN had a total of 7.9 million downloads which topped Decembers 6.6 Million. I'm sure Microsoft will answer with their numbers by tomorrow.

Legend of Spyro: Darkest Hour to hit this year?

50°
357w ago - Who is your favorite dragon that knows how to burn those sheep into nothing but crispy delight? Spyro without a doubt is the only one capable of being the answer to that very question.

EB Games and GameStop have officially started taking pre-orders for the lovable dragon for its upcoming title, Legend of Spyro: Darkest Hour. They currently have the listed price at $49.99 which happens to be $10 cheaper than usual retail launches. The game is expected to release in October, so you may be able to catch a glimpse of this title at the upcoming Game Developer Conference next week.

The title is supposedly going to be a multi-platform release for the PlayStation 2 and 3 as well as the Nintendo Wii and DS. This apparently leaves the 360 owners out of the fire breathing fun once again.

We'll keep you up to date as more comes out regarding this title in the future.

Resistance 2 PS3 Preview

50°
357w ago - As a launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man did much to dissuade potential PS3 owners from holding off on taking the initial plunge with a huge financial investment for the system. The title showcased a substantial portion of the PS3's technical might as well as the skill of developers Insomniac Games and landed its way as the top-selling game within days of the system's release.

Mixing a touch of sci-fi horror into an intense, stunning first-person shooter on the next-gen console was a winning mixture for Insomniac, whose track record is well proven with the hilarious and engaging Ratchet and Clank series. With two great PS3 titles under their belt, they're out to up the ante with what looks to be one hell of a sequel in Resistance 2.

While FOM centered on the invasion of Britain by the alien Chimera forces, Resistance 2 takes the battle to American shores. The game's story will pick up precisely where players left off at the conclusion of the first installment; protagonist Nathan Hale is captured by unknown troops and whisked away to Iceland.

Their chopper is shot down, and Hale eventually makes it back to the U.S. where he joins a group of fighters who are resistant to the Chimera virus. From there, the conflict will unfold across the 1950's era American landscape - in an alternate reality...
