PS3 Debug Firmware 3.15 PSP Emulator Details and FileList

700°
247w ago - We recently got a chance to explore the new PS3 Debug 3.15 firmware, and discovered that contrary to PS3 Firmware 3.10 the 'PSPemu' PSP emulator folder in /dev_flash of version 3.15 is no longer hidden.

The 3.15 PSPemu folder filelist is below, and is a bit interesting.. In the root of the folder contains the emulator, psp_emulator.self, the translator psp_translator.self, a folder labeled release, and of course a folder labled flash0.

For anyone familiar with the PSP, flash0 is of course the flash. It contains basic folders, with fonts, logos, and user PRX's.

The release folder contains different SPRX's requried for the emulator, from system, to umd and even network files.

To of course, quell any giant "we can make a CFW for the PSP work on the PS3" - it's not going to happen any time soon, things will still be signed from PSN, ala a PKG, which we can not edit - so sadly any luck with trying to inject our own code will be useless for now.

PS3 Debug Firmware 3.15 PSP Emulator FileList:

*/dev_flash/pspemu/flash0
*/dev_flash/pspemu/list.txt
*/dev_flash/pspemu/psp_emulator.self
*/dev_flash/pspemu/psp_translator.self

Amazon Listing Reveals Yakuza 3 is Coming to PS3 in March 2010

100°
252w ago - A few months back it was reported that Yakuza 3 may be making it's way to US and European markets for Sony's PS3 console.

Today, a listing on German site [Register or Login to view links] reveals Yakuza 3 is heading to PlayStation 3 in March, 2010 with a retail price of €62.99.

[Register or Login to view links] attempted to confirm this news, however, their Sega rep simply stated "No comment from me, I'm afraid" so only time will tell.

To quote: "A current listing on Amazon suggests the game may see release in March 2010. The listing is from Amazon.de which would mean it's in Germany.

Previously, the site did have all the PS3 Slim information up a couple weeks prior to a formal announcement by Sony, so this could be another misstep by Amazon.

With Sega hinting at a possible release out of Japan via PSN before the TGS, a Spring 2010 release is quite feasible."

253w ago - QPACE, the supercomputer at [Register or Login to view links] and the University of Wuppertal, is now deemed the world's most energy efficient supercomputer on the [Register or Login to view links].

The Green500 List ranks the energy efficiency of supercomputers around the world.

To quote: "The QPACEs Intel PowerXCell processors are an enhancement of the Cell/B.E. processor, originally developed by Sony, Toshiba and IBM for Sony's PlayStation 3 console.

QPACE (Quantum chromodynamics Parallel Computing on the Cell) is being used to simulate forces in elementary particle physics, especially in the research area of quantum chromodynamics, which describes such things as how a proton is made up out of quarks and gluons.

It consists of four racks at Research Center Jülich and four at the University of Wuppertal. Each of the QPACE installations has a top performance of 100 TeraFlops, equal to 100 trillion floating point operations per second. The supercomputer runs a standard Fedora Linux distro OS.

Each rack in QPACE contains 256 IBM PowerXCell 8i nine-core processors and 1 Terabyte storage, and uses 30 kilowatts of power."

Microsoft Job Listing Hints at Next-Gen Halo for XBox 360

50°
255w ago - Microsoft's internal Halo studio, 343 Industries, is working a new Halo game.

And not just another Halo game, a Halo game for the "next generation Xbox platform" – hopefully Microsoft doesn't consider a Natal-enabled Xbox 360 to be a next-gen platform.

To quote: A job listing on [Register or Login to view links] reveals that a level designer with at least one AAA game under their belt and a great amount of Halo knowledge can find a new home in the company's Redmond WA facilities where they can design and build levels for this "next big project."

"Work with our top first-party development partners to help ship a great first-party line up for next generation Xbox platform," the job ad reads. No information about the actual game is given.

Call of Duty: World at War PS3 Map Packs 50% Off, New Playlists

200°
257w ago - Treyarch Community Manager Josh Olin announced today that Call of Duty: World at War PS3 Map Packs are 50% off for a limited time, and revealed news of new CoD playlists as well.

To quote: For one week only (offer ending November 1, 2009), Call of Duty: World at War Map Packs 1, 2, and 3 for PS3 will be half-off in the PlayStation Store (only available in North America).

So if you are missing one, we hope this makes it a bit easier to complete your collection!

With this, we're announcing some important playlist changes you'll want to take note of:

• Hardcore HQ: The addition of Hardcore Headquarters to the Hardcore playlists has taken effect, by popular demand.
• Team Flags: In the MAP PACK category, the old "Team Objective" playlist has been removed, and replaced with two playlists; Team Flags being one of them (CTF, Domination, and War).
• Team Objectives: Also in the MAP PACK category, the counterpart to Team Flags is this new playlist, Team Objectives (S&D, HQ, and Sabotage).
• Also, all 3 map packs are now in the MAP PACK rotation. So if you want to play only new content, but are tired of the same 3 maps, this will hopefully be a happy medium for you =).

Finally, we've turned on Double-XP which will also end Monday, November...
